The Court Document that exposed Oluwo of Iwo’s dirty Past + His dirty past in America & Canada

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi (Telu 1)

Preamble…
How did Oluwo of Iwo land, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi
(Telu 1) and the Basorun Musulumi of Iwo
land
, High Chief Abiola Ogundokun fell apart? This big question is
still playing big on the lips of sons and daughters of Iwo land in Osun
State—South Western Nigeria.  Is it true
that Oba
Adewale Akanbi
is a retired fraudster with no pedigree before he became
a king? Is it true that the Oba was
foisted upon the people of Iwo by
some political powers in Osun state?
Is it true that Oba Adewale Akanbi is a highly cantankerous personality who is
ready to fight anybody anyhow and anywhere without recourse to his esteemed
position in society? Why did Oba Adewale Akanbi’s counterpart, Oba
Kadiri Olatunde
Adeoye, the Oluwo of Iwo Oke drag him to court between October 2016 and January
2017? Is it true that it was High Chief Abiola Ogundokun who sought the help of former Nigerian
President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo (GCFR) and Osun State Governor, Ogbeni
Rauf Adesoji
Aregbesola
to save Oba Adewale Akanbi from
going to jail in 2017? Why did Oba Adewale Akanbi compensate High Chief Abiola Ogundokun with the
all-important title of OBANLA of Iwo land, which he
allegedly imported from Ilesa?

The Oluwo with other Obas in company of High Chief Abiola Ogundokun

Is it
true that same Chief Abiola Ogundokun who bailed Oba Adewale Akanbi out of
trouble equally became a victim of the vicious nature of the Oba in a tiger-eats-her-chaperon manner? So what were the charges in the
summons that dragged Oba Adewale Akanbi to the court of
law in 2016? Why did the Iwo monarch
dodge the court of law severally, using different tricks from Iwo magisterial district down to Oshogbo magisterial district until a
bench warrant was issued for his arrest in December? Why did the Iwo monarch refuse to defend the charges
and instead went for a soft landing through Chief Abiola Ogundokun?
Who is Oba Adewale Akanbi? What was his profession before he became an Oba? Who brought him to Governor
Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola
? Was he chosen by Ifa oracle or he was politically imposed on the people of Iwo land? These questions seem to be
begging for answers in the details below.

The Fact before facts….

The Oluwo and his Godfather, High Chief Abiola Ogundokun (OBANLA of Iwo Land) when the going was still good

In a bid to
establish facts behind the royal rumble that threw Iwo, an ancient town in Osun State—South
Western Nigeria into a frenzy of dramatic silliness in the last six months, Asabeafrika
went out to dig the root of the controversy which began with a battle of
supremacy between Oba Kadiri Olatunde (Adeoye II) the Oluwo of Iwo Oke in Olaoluwa
LGA
area of Osun State and Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi (Telu 1)
the Oluwo of Iwo in Iwo LGA area of the state. In a detailed
effort to unravel the background of the battle royal that saw Oba
Adewale Akanbi
disrespecting
several court summons and threatening to arrest judges and lawyers with
traditional warrant in 2016, this blog went out for court documents which
revealed the dirty antecedent of Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi  and nearly ended his tenure in jail until
eminent Nigerians bailed him out
through the assistance of the 82 years old
Chief Abiola Ogundokun
whom he
once described as ‘My father’.
The Ile-Ife drama that led to the big fight…

The Arole Oodua, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi (Ojaja II) Said to be astonished at Oluwo’s conduct

The entire
drama of the absurd began, according to reliable sources, sometime in September,
2016 (10th of September) during a royal event inside the palace of
the Ooni
of Ife
in honor of the late Ooni Okunade Sijuade Olubuse’s first
year memoriam. The event which had other traditional rulers in attendance
equally had the two Oluwos in
attendance. However, sources claimed that the Oluwo of Iwo Oke Oba Kadiri Olatunde Adeoye got to
the venue earlier than his Iwo
counterpart. The Oluwo, Oba
Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi
was said to have arrived at the tail end of
the event. The event allegedly closed with the organizers asking two Obas in the guests list to offer closing
prayers in both Christian and Muslim fashion.

The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Adewale Akanbi sits while other Obas stood for him

The responsibility immediately
fell on Oba Kadiri Adeoye, a Muslim (Oluwo of Iwo Oke) and one other Oba who is a Christian (Onigbaye of
Igbaye kingdom). Oba Kadiri was first
to offer prayers in Islamic faith
while the Onigbaye ended the segment
with Christian prayer.

The Man who exposed Oba Akanbi, Oba Kadiri Adeoye: The Oluwo of Iwo Oke

It was while
the Christian prayer was ongoing, the Oluwo
of Iwo
Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi and his entourage allegedly arrived.
His arrival eventually led to uproar and nearly turned the venue to a boxing
ring according to sources. Oluwo Oke who was about leaving the occasion
after offering prayers in Islamic faith was said to have gone to greet his
counterpart, the Oba of Ifewara. And
it was the Oba of Ifewara who
allegedly said jokingly, to the Oluwo Oke
that “See, your father is here” (referring
to Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi the Oluwo of Iwo). But seeing the
sensitivity of that casual statement, and what that could translate to in the
future, Oba Kadiri Adeoye (Oluwo of Iwo Oke) was said to have reacted
by saying “He is not my father, he is my
brother. We are brothers”.

The Oluwo Oba Akanbi on the day of his Iwuye as an Oba

His reaction was said to have angered Oba
Abdulrasheed
Adewale Akanbi

who immediately flared up, threatening to beat up Oba Kadiri Adeoye in the presence of other kings for saying that to
his face. His fiery reaction led to altercation between him and the Oluwo of Iwo Oke as he threatened to
deal with Oba Kadiri Adeoye squarely. Other Obas in the gathering were said to have wade into the situation and
calmed frayed nerves, pleading with Oba Kadiri to keep quiet and allow Oba Akanbi
to have his way. Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi was said to have almost descended on Oba
Kadiri Adeoye
, allegedly threatening to slap him and seize his
horsewhip and crown in the presence of other royal guests. Oba Akanbi was said to have equally told the bewildered
crowd that he is the one who gave the Oluwo
of Iwo Oke
his crown and horsewhip and could as such, take it from him and
reduce him to nothing.

Who is senior; Oluwo of Iwo or Oluwo
of Iwo Oke?

The Elderly Oluwo of Iwo Oke, Oba Kadiri Adeoye

According to
legends and facts made available to Asabeafrika, the two Oluwos are brothers (With a third one, Oluwo
Ate of Iwo Ate
). In fact, sources familiar with the history of the two
kingdoms said Telu, the name Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi is presently
acclaiming to himself is the name of the father that begot Oluwo Oke and Oluwo
Oke
is the first born of Telu. Therefore, Oluwo Oke is an elder brother to Oluwo. However, it seems political
evolution played a role in downplaying the significance and traditional
seniority of the role of Oluwo Oke as
the stool is now categorized under Part
Two
of the Chief Law of Osun State of
Nigeria
.  However, sources believed
that Oba
Adewale
Akanbi who spent
most parts of his life in Canada might be alien to history of the
Iwo royal ascendancy. Hence, his
fiery effort to extract seniority and assert power over the Oluwo of Iwo Oke became an ego tart for
him and he therefore promised to ‘deal’ with Oba Kadiri Adeoye for daring to call him ‘My brother’ instead of ‘my
father’.
How Oluwo dealt with Oba Kadiri Adeoye…

Oba Adewale Akanbi: The Homeboy who became an Oba?

The
following month, August 4 to be précised,
the Oluwo of Iwo decided to make his
threat real to his Oluwo of Iwo Oke
counterpart, Oba Kadiri Adeoye as he allegedly sent some miscreants and
thugs armed with dangerous weapons such as cutlasses, guns, axe etc to a
shopping complex owned by the Oluwo of
Iwo Oke
at Odo-Eran area, Ejigbo Road in Iwo. The thugs allegedly stormed the complex few minutes after the
arrival of Oba Adeoye who visited the complex for a meeting with his
tenants. Their aim according to sources was either to kill or arrest Oba
Adeoye
. But the Oba was
quickly spirited out of the complex through a back exit route by well-wishers and
this allegedly angered the boys as they went vandalizing and looting the
complex. They were said to have destroyed and looted items running into
millions of Naira belonging to tenants before they left. The case was later
reported to the police but no action was taken.
Oluwo inspects damaged shopping
complex of Oluwo Oke…

Further investigation
revealed that three days after the damages meted on the shopping complex of the
Oluwo of Iwo Oke Oba Kadiri Adeoye and
attempt made on his life at Odo-Eran
Area, Ejigbo Road, Iwo, Osun
State the Oluwo of Iwo Oba
Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi
paid a surprise visit to the structure. As
if to see and inspect the level of damage done by his ‘boys’, the monarch was
said to have arrived the venue with none of his police orderly or palace guards
except a cream of touts and thugs who escorted him to the shopping complex.

The
thugs as if to cause more commotion to an already psychologically battered
community allegedly raised their guns and shot sporadically into the sky just
like armed robbers, causing many to scamper into confusion and safety at the
same time as Oluwo went round,
allegedly claiming that the land on which the complex is built now belong to
him (Mo gbese le).

The second attempt on the life of
Oluwo of Iwo Oke…

The Isuzu Car belonging to Oba Kadiri Adeoye damaged by thugs allegedly loyal to Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi

Smarting out
of the shock of loses recovered from the destruction of his shopping complex
and the looting of tenants’ properties therein, the Oluwo of Iwo Oke Oba Kadiri Olatunde Adeoye decided
to make a visit to his shopping complex few days after the damage on the
alleged order of Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi the Oluwo
of Iwo
. But his intuitiveness saved him, the Kabiyesi allegedly decided to send his aides, who drove in one of
his SUVs, an Isuzu Rodeo Car (4
Doors) with a privatized number ‘Oluwo Oke’ inscribed on the plate.

Immediately the vehicle birthed at the complex,
miscreants and thugs allegedly hiding and guiding the building descended on the
car, hitting the car with machetes, sticks and other harmful objects until they
gained entrance into the car, aiming to lynch the Kabiyesi. The glass of the owner’s side where the Kabiyesi normally sits was broken down
but to their disappointment, the Kabiyesi
was not in the car. Some of his aides were wounded as they ran away
abandoning the car to the thugs.

The Oluwo
Oke
, Oba Kadiri Adeoye, this time around was able to arrest the
miscreants due to the level of damage done to his car and his wounded aides;
only for the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba
Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi
to go and release them. This action and
more other daring ones made the Oluwo Oke
to approach the court of law, suing both Oluwo
and the state commissioner of police for threat to life and social
disturbance.

More humiliation for Oba Kadiri
Adeoye from Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi

Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi….The Oluwo of Iwo…He wants Oba Kadiri Adeoye to call him “Abba-Father”

Further
investigation by this blog revealed that on so many occasion, between September
2016 and December 2016, the Oluwo of Iwo Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi
(Telu) barred the Oluwo of Iwo oke, Oba
Kadiri Adeoye
from attending social events in Iwo land and environs. This, Oluwo
allegedly does in collaboration with some officers of the Nigeria Police force whom he uses to scare, intimidate and harass
his Oluwo of Iwo Oke counterpart. A
privileged source who is privy to the entire scenario in Iwo land narrated a certain instance to this blog “Around the time of this conflict, there was
an event in Igege a nearby town.

It
was the coronation ceremony of the new Oba of Igege. Oluwo had arrived earlier before his Oluwo of Iwo Oke
counterpart. But immediately the Oluwo Oke arrived and was approaching his seat
with his entourage, the Oluwo of Iwo
ordered some Police officers at the
venue to send Oba Adeoye back and never to let him come to their midst. He
said “That person coming is a criminal, don’t let him come close and seat with us
here”
and in order to forestall crisis, the police men sent Oluwo Oke back and he was never allowed
to grace the occasion even though he was officially invited.

Oba Adeoye’s reaction to Oba Akanbi’s
bullying…

It was due
to the barrage of public humiliation and intention to silent him and banish his
authority for life, by Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi
(Oluwo of Iwo) and the several humiliation meted on him at public functions
coupled with the destruction of his property that warranted the decision of Oba
Kadiri Olatunde Adeoye
(Oluwo of Iwo Oke) to make an urgent call to his
lawyer, Barrister Soji Oyetayo
to file a case before the court of law and sue Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi to ensure justice is done to
correct the youthful Oluwo of his
childish acts and alleged primitive ways of relating with society-at-large.

A
case was filed against Oluwo of Iwo
on October
6, 2016
at the Chief Magistrate Court of Osun State
(Iwo magisterial district). But due to the imminent fear of Oluwo’s thugs who in conjunction with
some elements in the Nigerian Police
force
barred Oba Kadiri Adeoye from attending proceedings, the Oluwo Oke found it difficult to pursue
his case in a plausible atmosphere.  The
thugs threatened to lynch him in the court premises if he appears; the Oba through his lawyer, Barrister
Soji Oyetayo
later made a request to the Chief Judge of Osun State for the transfer of the

case
from Iwo magisterial district to Oshogbo magisterial district on 19th
of October, 2016.

Court Papers that exposed Oba Adewale Akanbi’s
dirty past…

The ensuing
scuffle and alleged attempt to kill Oba Kadiri Adeoye (Oluwo of Iwo Oke) by thugs loyal to Oluwo
of Iwo
, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi led to a court case filed
against the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba
Abdulrashed Adewale Akanbi
at the Chief Magistrate Court of Osun State (Iwo magisterial district and later transferred to Oshogbo) by Oba Kadiri Adeoye,
the Oluwo of Iwo Oke. The case with
suit number MIW/MISC/6/2016 revealed much of the dirty past of the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi.
The Allegations…

Among the
allegations made against Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi by Oba
Kadiri
Adeoye
is hooliganism and fraud. The Oluwo of Iwo Oke said apart from the fact that Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi
love to move around town with thugs and engaging the services of miscreants to
destroy properties belonging to anybody that crosses his part in Iwo land, the Oba was equally indulging in Yahoo-Yahoo and other acts of fraud
even as a reigning king.

The Oluwo of Iwo Oke revealed in the 33
points suit filed against the Oluwo of
Iwo
that “When he (Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi) first travelled out of
the country to America in the 90s, he
disowned his father and started using the name “ADEONIGBAGBE” as surname
against “AKANBI”. That Oba Akanbi used “ADEONIGBAGBE” as his
surname to travel to the United States of America where he
resided at New York.

That Oba
Adewale Akanbi
was later arrested in New York City for an offence which bordered on dishonesty and was
detained for 7 months before he was deported back to Nigeria sometimes in year 2000.

That Oba Akanbi was in Nigeria until year
2001 when he again changed his name to “AKANBI”, the name which he had earlier
disowned and used same to get another visa through which he travelled to Canada
where he became a Canadian citizen.
That again,
sometimes between 2006 and 2007, the Oluwo
was convicted and jailed for an offence in Toronto, Canada which he
concealed from the state government before his appointment and installation as
the Oluwo of Iwo.

That the Oluwo already had about three wives who
begat children for him in Canada but
he has refused to pay maintenance allowance to any of the children in Canada. That, as at October 6, 2016, the
Oluwo cannot enter Canada again due to his antecedent.

More allegations by the Oluwo of Iwo Oke

Oba Kadiri Olatunde Adeoye, The Oluwo of Iwo Oke …The man who exposed Oba Adewale Akanbi

Oluwo Oke alleged in his affidavit that “On
the 4th of August, 2016, he was at his shopping complex at Odo Eran Area, Ejigbo Road, Iwo—Osun
State of Nigeria to see his tenants
when suddenly, without any just cause, the following persons (Adebari
Mumini
, Munri Ori Ejo Saba, Olori Odoloso Adesoji Aderemi, Lanre
Bakau
Adegun & Oloye Simiyu
) who were fully armed with dangerous weapons
such as cutlasses, guns, axe etc stormed his premises with the intention to
eliminate him”. Oba Adeoye said it took the grace of God for him to be spirited
out of the compound unhurt. The Oluwo of
Iwo Oke
further noted in his suit that;

“Before
I escaped from the scene, the aforementioned persons threatened to kill me and
born down my shopping complex”;
That ‘after the aforementioned persons
discovered that he has escaped, they descended on some of his tenants and

vandalized/stole some of the valuables in their shops which includes; 20 cutlasses, 7 hoes, 2 phones (M9
Tecno & Tecno H5), set of padlock
keys
, Android phones, 1 SIM Card, 1 full set of plastic rubber of garri, ground-nut, sugar and the
sum of N500’.

Other items
allegedly stolen by Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi’s thugs are; 3 flat-screens TV of 18 inches monitors, 1 flat screen of 17 inches monitor and 1 Nokia
touch-light
. The hoodlums also stole 4
clippers
, 1 Nokia phone C5, 2 set of speakers, 1 Android phone
(Techno M3 with 1 SIM card), 1 plastic
rubber
, 1 Tecno H5 phone); 1 Techno P5 with 2 SIM cards and the sum
of N5, 000; they also stole 20 yards
of decoration clothes and the sum of N5,
300
from several tenants in the building.
How Police & Oluwo’s thugs scared
Oba Adeoye from attending Court proceedings…

The Oluwo of Iwo Oke in his affidavit
exposed the role of some officers of the Nigeria
Police
during the crisis; he alleged that the Divisional Police Officers
from Bode-Osi
and Iwo were contacted and their men eventually
came to disperse the thugs and miscreants but no arrest was made.

The Kabiyesi said he later instructed his
counsel, Barrister Soji Oyetayo Esq to petition the Assistant Inspector General
of Police
, Zone XI Headquarters, Osogbo
on the matter (He attached a copy of the petition to the summon) That it was on
that decision that the police acted and apprehend one of the thugs who attacked
him, by name Adesoji Aderemi who was later arraigned at the Chief Magistrate
Court, Iwo on 29th of
August, 2016.

Gov. Aregbesola with Osun State police commissioner

That on the 24th of September, the Oluwo of Iwo who is first respondent
used the officers of the Osun State
Commissioner of Police who is second respondent, to physically stop him from
attending two traditional events in the state which are the presentation of
staff of office to the Olowu of Ile-Mowu

and Oloke
of Oba-Moro
.  And that two days
later (26th of September) Oba Kadiri Adeoye received a ‘stay-out-of-circulation’
message from the DPO of Bode-Osi (an officer of the second
respondent) that he should dare not appear at the Chief Magistrate Court, Iwo
to testify in his own case (As Complainant) and that if he (Oba Adeoye) dares
go to the court, he would be attacked (By Oluwo’s thugs). The Oluwo of Iwo Oke said that he later learnt that the Divisional Crime Officer from Iwo Police station went to the court on the said date with his men in
order to prevent him (Oba Adeoye) from gaining entry into the Chief Magistrate
court, Iwo, to testify in his own
case.

The Oluwo of Iwo Oke also
revealed in his suit, that on same day, the Oluwo
of Iwo
, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi sponsored some thugs to lay
ambush within the premises of the court with the sole purpose of preventing him
from gaining access into the court.

On same 26,
according to Oluwo of Iwo Oke, the first respondent (Oluwo of
Iwo) in company of some hoodlums who earlier attacked him and who were at large
(to justice) went to his shopping complex to warn tenants to vacate the
premises as he (Oluwo) is the owner of the land on which the shopping complex
is sighted and that if he ever sees Oluwo
Oke
on the land again, he will deal with him.  Oba Adeoye said Oba Akanbi has been
abusing his office by harassing, intimidating, molesting and preventing him
from free movement within Iwo town
and that the conduct of Oluwo does
not befits a person of his status and caliber as he is used to carrying armed
thugs, miscreants and hoodlums around to harass, intimidate, molest and attack
persons whom he perceived not to be on same page with him.
Plead for case transfer…

Seeing that
the 1st respondent and the second respondent were making life
unbearable for him by making the court premises inaccessible to him, the Oluwo of Iwo Oke, Oba Kadiri Adeoye in a letter dated
19th of October, 2016

written to Honorable Justice Ojo  (Chief Judge of Osun State),  asked that the case be transferred from Iwo magistrate district to Oshogbo magistrate district due to
threat to life and intimidation from both Oluwo
of Iwo
, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi and some officers of
the Nigeria Police force.  The
complainant pleaded that transferring the case to Oshogbo will not only save his life but give the law an ample
opportunity to thrive in order for justice to be attained.

More dirty allegations…

The Oluwo of Iwo Oke also alleged in his
court documents that the Oluwo of Iwo
Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi is
making his money through internet fraud known as “Yahoo-Yahoo” using his palace as a cover up; and that a petition
has been written to the EFCC (Economic & Financial Crime Commission) to
investigate him and his boys. The plaintiff also accused the respondent (Oluwo
of Iwo) of being selected to his present office by fiat and not through
democratic means; he said “That I also
know as a matter of fact that the 1st respondent was not nominated
by his ruling house before he was appointed and installed as the Oluwo of Iwo”.

Oba Adeoye added “That as a member of Iwo traditional council, I owe it a duty to inform
this Honorable Court when I got this information”
; “That the first respondent is not fit and proper to be appointed to the
exalted position of Oluwo of Iwo considering his antecedents and present
conducts”

The Oba of Iwo Oke prayed to the court that “As a result of the foregoing and in order
to prevent the 1st respondent from attacking, harassing,
intimidating, threatening and molesting me with thugs and miscreants and also
restricting my movement anywhere in Iwo or Nigeria generally, I approached this
honorable Court for leave and this court did grant leave for me; that I swear
to this affidavit in good faith and in accordance with the oaths law”
Oba Adewale Akanbi’s reaction…

Meanwhile in
a counter affidavit dated 15th of November 2016, the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi
described Oba Kadiri Adeoye’s allegations as scandalous, vexatious and
designed to embarrass, blackmail, and ridicule him before right thinking
members of the society.  The Oluwo in the counter affidavit deposed
to by one of his traditional chiefs, Chief Adelani Akanbi (Aremo of Iwo
land) urged the judge to strike out or dismiss the application in the interest
of justice. Although the Oba Adewale Akanbi didn’t refute any
of the allegations raised by the Oluwo of
Iwo
Oke in his suit, but only claimed that the allegations were
irrelevant and immaterial. Oluwo also claimed in his letter to
the court that to his knowledge, ‘there
is no person or ruler is it traditional or honorary known
, called or refer to as “Oluwo of Iwo Oke”.
A further affidavit at the magistrate court Iwo
on December 18, tried hard to amplify the Oluwo’s role as a senior Oba and boss
to his Oluwo of Iwo Oke but the case was already trending at the Oshogbo
magistrate district. All affidavits didn’t dispute serious allegations raised
by the applicant but advised the judge to ignore them.
Osun State Commissioner of Police
reacts

In his own preliminary
objection, the Osun State
Commissioner of Police denied ever being used as a rubber stamp by the Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale
Akanbi
.
In a document signed by one Edogun Sunday of the
legal section of the Department of Investigation, State C.I.D, Osogbo on 25th of November,
2016 the police boss exonerated himself and his men from indulging in acts that
suggests that he was being used or controlled by the Oluwo of Iwo to harass, molest or intimidate the Oluwo of Iwo Oke, Oba Kadiri Adeoye. The
state police boss noted that he or his agents cannot be influenced by anybody;
and that he and his men discharge their duties in accordance with the law
without fear or favor. The Police boss therefore urged the court to strike out
his name from the case.
Abracadabra of Oluwo of Iwo with Magistrate Olusola Aluko (Part 1)

The PUNCH headline where Oluwo promised to shun court proceedings

On the first
hearing of the case in Oshogbo, Oba Kadiri Adeoye appeared in court
with his lawyer. However, the first respondent, Oluwo of Iwo refused to show up. Instead, he was represented by Oba
Asimiyu Sadiq
the Ologburo of
Ogburo
kingdom.  When Magistrate Olusola Aluko who was hearing
the case asked why the Oluwo refused
to show up for the case, his lawyer Chief
Olayide Yekeen
told the magistrate that his client (Oluwo) was too big to
appear personally and that it is a taboo for a king to come before an ordinary
judge and be questioned like an ordinary person.
More drama from Oluwo of Iwo….

The Oluwo of Iwo in one of his cars on the telephone

On 26th
of November, which is the third time the case came up, the Oluwo of Iwo Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi
shocked the court when his counsel, Barrister Olaide Yekeen raised objection to the jurisdiction of a
magistrate court to handle such a case. He thereby discredited the privileges
of the magistrate court. He equally alleged that the court ought to hear his
prayer first before any proceeding. Magistrate Olusola Aluko agreed that
the court was mandated to give a listening ear to Oluwo’s prayer and
counter affidavit but the magistrate frowned at Oluwo’s decision to
dishonor his invitation by refusing to come in person to answer some of the
weighty petitions raised against him by Oluwo
of Iwo Oke
.
In a twist
of fate and in his effort to get down to the nitty-gritty of the case, Magistrate
Aluko
issued a warrant of arrest by the Police to pick Oba
Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi
 and
bring him to court since he refused to appear for three consecutive times since
the beginning of the case in Iwo and Oshogbo.
Abracadabra of Oluwo of Iwo with Magistrate Olusola Aluko (Part 2)

Oluwo; the Oba who threatened a magistrate with ‘traditional arrest’

In another
twist of fate and to the surprise of the legal community in Osun state, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi
vowed not to appear before the judge alleging that the case has been
compromised.  The Oluwo claimed that some monarchs who were afraid of his rising fame
were using traditional rulers in his domain to fabricate lies against him with
the aim of destroying his reputation vowed not to honor the invitation of the
court claiming that no one has the right to arrest a traditional ruler in Yoruba land. In an interview with PUNCH
Newspaper of Monday December 26, the Oluwo sent a strong warning to magistrate Aluko “It is a shame on the
judiciary to have such magistrate
. There
is no indictment; no case
at all.
Somebody just brought a worthless paper
to you
(referring to the magistrate). It
is a civil case and you are relying on that to issue a warrant of arrest”. “I am
not a criminal. Some people want to tarnish my name and they cooked up a lie
that I am into Yahoo-Yahoo. I am not. Can one be a monarch and still be doing
Yahoo-Yahoo? What do I need that for?”
The Oluwo accused the magistrate of trying hard to tarnish his image “All he just wants to do is tarnish my name.
That means it (case) has a political undertone
”.  Funny enough, the same Oba Akanbi in a letter addressed
to Magistrate
Aluko
through the registrar, Chief Magistrate Court, Oshogbo and dated Tuesday January 20,
2016,  the Oluwo pleaded for a leave of absence from the court proceedings of
that day. The letter signed by his secretary one Kamoru Ademola showed the double standard of Oba Abdulrasheed
Adewale Akanbi
as he pleaded that the court permit his absence due to
an event he attended in Abuja.

The letter to Magistrate Aluko from Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi claiming to miss his flight in Abuja over bad weather

Oba Akanbi in the letter titled “MIW.M.6/2016:
Oba Kadiri Adeoye II vs Oba
Abdul-Rasheed Adewale Akanbi Or Application
for leave of Absence”
told the court that he was invited to Abuja by an organization called Excellent
Media
where he was honored as “Royal Father of the Year 2016” at Cyprian Ekwensi Center for Arts and Culture, Area
10, Garki
, Abuja on the 18th
of December. The Oba said as much as
he would have loved to appear in person in court on the 20th of
December, he was unable to book a flight from Abuja to Lagos or Ibadan as a result of ‘bad weather and visibility problem for
airplanes’
. The Oba in the
paragraph 4 of the letter pleaded that his leave of absence from the court was
not intentional and ‘not as a matter of
disrespect to the court but born out of
necessity
and safety of life’
.

Another Escused letter (Invitation Card) to avoid court proceedings

So, it was a huge surprise to many observers when the
same Oba
Akanbi
called PUNCH Newspaper on Sunday December
25 to grant the controversial interview vowing not to appear in court and that
the court has no right to try him for a ‘civil case’. All this theatrics were
allegedly meant to buy time and find a route out of the legal logjam as the Oluwo dreaded the outcome of the case as
he had no means of denying those allegations in a proper court trial.

A health escuse duty certificate which portrays Oluwo as ill to appear in Court

The Oba
also engaged the service of Osun State
Free Health Services (FHS) in January
2017 when the case came up for the 5th hearing. In a short note dated
4th of January, 2017 from the office of the Chief Medical Officer, Iwo
Zonal Hospital
Management Board,
and the letter read “After examining Oba
A.A. Akanbi of the Oluwo Palace, I consider him to be excused from duty for
five days, after which he should, unless further excused by a separate
certificate, report for duty”

The Anger of Magistrate Aluko…

The Punch Headline where Magistrate Aluko threatened to jail Oluwo for Contempt espocal

Sensing that
the Oluwo was playing on his
intelligence, coupled with his double-trick stunts of writing him a letter
dated December 20th, pleading for his absence from court and yet
going to the press to declare his summons as illogical, Magistrate Olusola Aluko of Chief Magistrate Court, Oshogbo magistrate district issued a
fresh warrant of arrest on the Oluwo of
Iwo
Oba Abdul Rasheed Adewale Akanbi on Wednesday 28th of
December, 2016.  The magistrate obviously
pissed off with Oluwo’s double standards stepped down the substantive case
before him for a fresh case of “contempt of the court of law by Oba
Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi”
.  Aluko
noted that Oba Akanbi ought to have been arrested and produced in court at
the next adjourned date following the warrant issued against the traditional
ruler. Aluko added that the Oluwo
threatened him by issuing “a traditional warrant of arrest”.

Gov. Rauf Aregbesola….He Put this Oluwo on the throne, can he remove him or he will look the other way?

According to
magistrate Aluko, the case was
transferred from the magistrate court in Iwo
to Oshogbo when hoodlums stormed the
court and policemen in three trucks were drafted to rescue the magistrate who
first heard the case.
Aluko stated “Bench warrant was issued in
the presence of his lawyer, Mr. Olaide
Yekin, and counsel for the
commissioner of police, Mr. Abass Haruna,
OC Legal State CID of Osun Command on
Tuesday December 20”
Aluko lamented the unruly behavior of Oba Abdulrasheed
Akanbi
“After the event of the last adjourned date, the online media
was awash with threats allegedly issued by the first respondent, Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale, to arrest me
traditionally”
“I
personally read and watched on Channels Television on Friday, December 23,
2016; then, on Monday, December 26, 2016, PUNCH
Newspaper
published on page 12 a story captioned “I will not appear before Osun magistrate”. “The story was also
promoted on the front page of the paper. In the body of the story, the first
respondent was quoted to have said, “It is a shame on the judiciary to have
such magistrates sitting”; “I have a
print out of the statement based on Channels Television and newspaper
publication”.

High Chief Abiola Ogundokun with his extranged godson, Oluwo Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi….Ogundokun saved him from Oluwo’s case

Magistrate Aluko continued “There is no doubt that the statements are contemptuous in nature and
they are meant to embarrass and humiliate this court. Under the law, it is contempt espacal, which attracts
punitive action”
“This court
has a duty to protect itself from assault and preserve the sanctity of the judiciary
and due process. Therefore, the case which brought the two parties is hereby
stepped down until this issue of contempt is cleared”
The
magistrate finally educated Oba Abdulrasheed Adewale Akanbi who
had been raising the issue that since the Osun State Commissioner of Police
refused to appear, he would not appear as well as both of them were jointly
sued by the Oluwo of Iwo Oke “Let me quickly add that so far that warrant
of arrest was not issued against the commissioner of police is not an excuse for
first respondent (Oluwo) not to appear on the summons on him”.
“The commissioner of Police was sued
in his official capacity hence; he needs not to appear personally”.
“It
is on that score that another warrant of arrest is hereby issued on the first respondent,
Oba Rasheed Adewale to appear before this court again, personally on the first
adjourned date, which is December 30, 2016 to come and confirm if indeed he
made those statements”
Ogundokun, Aregbe & Obasanjo to
the rescue…

High Chief Abiola Ogundokun, the OBANLA of Iwo Land

It was at this
junction according to sources that eminent Iwo citizen, High Chief Abiola
Ogundokun
who was in London
for bed rest in December left the UK to make consultations with Osun State Governor, Ogbeni
Rauf Aregbesola
and ex-Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo
to intervene.

Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo equally saved Oba Akanbi from jail courtesy Chief Abiola Ogundokun

Although the Oluwo later
appeared in court to apologize to Magistrate Aluko over his salacious
statements as he equally instigated peace moves with High Chief Abiola Ogundokun
who allegedly used his diplomatic skill to negotiate a soft landing for the
embattled Oluwo who was almost going to jail as all his tricks and
efforts to escape justice, claiming to be bigger than the law fell on a bad
portion.

Case closed

Governor Rauf Aregbesola begged Oluwo Oke to drop case  against Oluwo of Iwo at the instance of Chief Abiola Ogundokun

The Governor
of Osun State later put a call to Oba Kadiri Adeoye the Oluwo of Iwo Oke, urging him to forgive the Oluwo of Iwo and take the case off court and save Oba
Abdulrasheed Akanbi
from imminent disgrace and ridicule.
But the Oluwo of Iwo Oke who respected the
Governor’s plea and that of eminent Nigerians like High Chief Abiola Ogundokun
and Chief
Olusegun Obasanjo
(GCFR) gave stringent conditions which includes that “The Oluwo of Iwo will stop harassing him
publicly; that the Oluwo will stop addressing him as a lesser king (Baale) as
he shares same authority of Oba with him but on a Part two level; and that he
as Oluwo of Iwo Oke, his position historically is that of a brother and not a
son to Oluwo of Iwo”
.  He said three
of them of Iwo royalty are children
of same parent, they are: Oluwo of Iwo, Oluwo Oke of Iwo Oke and Oluwo
Ate of Iwo Ate
. A notice to discontinue the case was filed at the Chief
Magistrate Court, Iwo (Where the
summons originated) on Tuesday January 3rd, 2017. In a two pages
letter Oba Kadiri Adeoye wrote “TAKE NOTICE that the applicant hereby seeks the leave of this
Honorable Court to discontinue the above mentioned case against the Respondent
due to the intervention of eminent personalities”
However, since Oluwo Oke pulled out his case from the court of law, the Oluwo of Iwo has refused entreaties from both natives and eminent citizens
to make him sign a peace deed between him and his Oluwo of Iwo Oke counterpart.
Deadlock Peace Treaty…

Alhaji (Chief) Kamilu Babatunde-Arowolo (L) Head of the Ruling Houses in Iwo Land with an aide….He tried to settle Oluwo’s score with Oluwo of Iwo Oke to no avail

In a Sunday May 7, 2017 exclusive interview
with this blog, Alhaji (Chief) Babatunde Arowolo, Head of the
entire ruling houses in Iwo land
lamented how the 4 ruling houses arranged a peace meeting between the Oluwo and his Oluwo Oke counterpart at a central place in Iwo town but the Oluwo
who promised to attend the peace meeting and embrace the Oluwo of Iwo Oke refused to show up. The meeting which started at
10 am saw Oba Akanbi keeping everyone
waiting till 5pm despite several visits and pleads to his palace. He allegedly,
later scolded the peace makers that he is too big to meet any ‘lesser Baale’ for a meeting and that if Oluwo of Iwo Oke cannot come straight to
his palace and remove his clothes and be rolling nakedly on the floor, he will
deal with him (Ma’a ka kuro lori ile).

High Chief Abiola Ogundokun with Oluwo Oba Abdulrasheed Akanbi & his wife, Olori Chanel Akanbi @ Ogundokun’s Lagos Residence last year

High Chief Abiola Ogundokun who
initiated the move that saved the Oluwo
from going to jail also lamented how Oba Akanbi has refused to sign the
peace deed between him and Oluwo Oke
and instead decided to pick fight with everybody over the document. The Oluwo has since stripped Chief
Ogundokun
of his titles in Iwo
land even after giving him the highest honor and title of OBANLA of Iwo land on
January 8th, 2017 after Chief Abiola Ogundokun saved him
from going to jail by seeking the assistance of President Olusegun Obasanjo
and Governor
Rauf
Aregbesola who pleaded with Oluwo
Oke
to drop the case. The Oluwo
has since launched a heavy campaign of calumny, abuse and ridicule against Chief
Abiola
Ogundokun as the later has equally sued the Oluwo for defamation of character.
