How Mum influenced Methodist Church Founder, John Wesley’s life with Prayer—Dr. Tobe Momah

Dr. Tobe Momah, MD, Author, Preacher & Scientist

“What king, going to make war against
another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with
ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?”
(Luke 14:31)

S.I.T.  (Stay In Tune) TO KILL…

Until you
start praying, you remain a prey for the enemy. Nothing stops the devil like
prayer! It disarms his ammunition, confuses his tactics and destroys his
machinations. The Prophet Elijah
prayed a prayer that was effectual and fervent in 1st Kings 18:6.
It brought down fire from heaven, sparked off a nationwide revival and ended
three and a half years of famine.

Dr. Tobe Momah, MD, Author, S.I.T.

James 5:16-18 described that prayer as “the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous
man (that) availeth much (seeing) Elijah was a man subject to like passions as
we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain and it rained not on the
earth by the space of three years and six months. And he prayed again and the
heaven gave rains and the earth brought forth her fruit”

The GDA meets Dr. Tobe Momah during a recent visit to Abuja, Nigeria

By that
prayer, Elijah destroyed all eight
hundred and fifty prophets of Baal and heralded a re-awakening in his time. Our
battle field is on our knees. As long as we refuse to S.I.T and kill, we defer
our opportunity to win!
The Bible
says in 2 Corinthians 10:4 that we are in a war, and it is one battle
no man can fight for you. In spite of Jesus’
triumph and victory on the cross of Calvary two thousand plus years ago,
only a mouth that speaks in agreement with God in the place of prayer can taste
a similar victory.

The Book; S.I.T (STAY IN TUNE)

Believers
are modern-day killers when they apply the sword of the spirit—the sword of
God—in their daily lives. In 2nd Kings 1:9-14, the Prophet Elijah pull down fire from
heaven and killed a hundred foot soldiers and their captains for trying to make
him get off his seated position.
The Bible
says, “Then the king sent unto him a
captain of fifty with his fifty. And
behold,
he sat on the top of a hill
. And he spoke
unto him, though man of God,
the king
hath said, Come down. And Elijah answered and said to the captain of
fifty, if I be a man of God, then let fire
come down from heaven, and consume thee
and
thy fifty. And there came down fire from heaven, and consumed him and his
fifty”.
Elijah won sitting down! He incinerated his
enemies and set things concerning the kingdom in order from a sitting position.
No Will, No War!

Dr. Tobe Momah explaining the ‘No Will, No War’ philosophy to the GDA

The famous
South African preacher, Williams Bosley, wrote the following
“Faith
is
impossible where the will of God is either ignored or unknown”.
It is the same in prayer. Until you know the will of God, you can’t truly fight
God’s war. The Apostle Paul said, in Corinthians 9:26 “I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that
beateth the air”.
Paul advocated for certainty concerning the will of God
before warring or running for the kingdom.
Spiritual
warfare has grown more sophisticated but less effectual in the last thirty
years because the foundation of waiting on the Lord and listening for his
directions to fight the war have been replaced by human strategies and new-age tactics.
It is time
to return to the Lord of host who has never lost a battle and to the shepherd
of our souls who gave His life for our victory (2nd Corinthians
2:14). Discovery is the route to recovery in spiritual warfare and we must
fight from position of revelation to be relevant in warfare.

The GDA with Dr. Tobe Momah, MD

Jesus advocated for a time to sit before
going to battle or building a tower (see Luke
14:28-29
). He said that failure to account the cost would bring untold
shame and unmitigated disaster to such plan less and wary souls. If you will
sit down first, and count the cost, you will fulfill your destiny and reach
your destination.
Job 33:14-18 says “God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not. In a dream,
in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumbering upon
the bed: Then, he openeth the ears of men, and sealed their instruction but he
may withdraw man from His purpose, and hide pride from man (and) keep back his
soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword”.

The
believers who do not perish on the battlefronts of life have a revelation feed
coming from heaven that preserves them; this revelation feed from heaven
slaughters enemies, keeps believers safe from harm by sealing instructions in
their spirit man and maintain them on an eternity with God.
Israel at the Benjamites!

Dr. Tobe Momah, MD, believes in a sit and kill spiritual warfare strategy

Israel had
just crushed all opposition to take the promised land of Canaan. They had taken the land belonging to King Og of
Bashan
and were recognized as the pre-eminent super power of their time.
As the drums
of war reverberated following the orgy of violence on a Levite’s wife in Benjamin (See Judges 19) the Israelites felt so self-confident they
didn’t bother sitting at God’s feet; but they went straight to war.
Judges 20:11 says “So all the men of Israel were gathered against the city (of
Gibeah), knit together as one man, to
fight the Benjamites. They were all agreed
on what to do, but they had failed to agree with God first!

Back of the book

That
inevitably led to their downfall. After two straight loses (See Judges
20:20-25) to a midsized army of fighting Benjamites,
the Israelites decided to sit at
God’s feet to ascertain how and if to war.
Judges 20:26 says, “Then all the children of Israel, and all the people, went up, and came unto the house of God, and wept, and
sat there before the Lord, and fasted
that
day until even, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before
the Lord”.
In the first
battle, they had asked with presumption. The second time they battled, they had
asked out of their pain and the third time they had asked out of a desire to
pleasure God’.
They won
comfortably, thereafter, but learnt a valuable lesson. You cannot win the
battles of life until you know His will and you cannot know His will until you
sit at his feet and ask Him!.
WESLEY’S Mother’s Prayer Culture

Susanna Westley, the Faith Woman who begeth John & Charles Westley

Susanna Wesley had a unique prayer position. She
would cover her head with an apron to let her children know not to disturb her
when they saw her in that position.
After having nineteen children in nineteen years, with nine passing away
in their early years, she maintained this prayer position for upward of two
hours daily.

What John said of mum, Susanna

She had made
a vow in her early Christian years to spend twice as much time in Christian
devotion as she did on entertainment and, even though she was an incredibly
busy woman, she kept her vow devotedly.

John Wesley. Founder of Methodist Church

She was a Pastor’s wife, mother of nineteen
children, keeper of home, domestic servant and home school teacher of all her
children till they were ready to go to college. Notwithstanding her time
constraints, Susanna Wesley prayed daily for her family and spent at least
an hour per week counseling each child and listening to their doubts or
answering their questions.

Charles Wesley, Susanna’s other kid who made Great Music for the world

It was that
pedigree that shaped the life of John Wesley, founder of the Methodist
Church
. He preached to more than a million people in his life time and
started the Reformation Movement that sparked the Great Awakening. His
younger brother Charles Wesley also benefited from the life of prayer and
worship Susanna Wesley inculcated in her children. He became one of the
foremost song writers of his time and composed singularly over nine thousand hymns—many
of which are still sung today.
Every
victory in life starts in the place of prayer. Susanna Westley
understood this fact and, by doing it, with such devotion and dedication,
endowed a legacy in her children for time memorial.
