Kalu counsels youths against social vices

    Dr. Orji Kalu
    Eminent businessman and
former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Kalu, has called on government at all
levels to integrate the youth in their policies and programmes, noting that
young people are not only future leaders but also valuable assets that cannot be
ignored in building a prosperous nation.

    Kalu acknowledged the
pivotal role played by the youth in promoting sustainable development, adding
that integrating the youth socially, economically and politically will go a
long way in curbing social vices in the society.
    In a statement signed by
his Special Adviser, Kunle Oyewumi, Kalu said,”as we celebrate the 2016
International Youth Day, it is important for government to appraise its youth
initiatives with the aim of strengthening the engagement and participation of
    youth in the Nigeria project.
    Considering the large
percentage of the world population that is dominated by the youth, it is
clearly obvious that the young generation cannot be undermined in global
    development.
    As government cannot do
it alone, the private sector including civil society organizations, the media
and development partners have dominant roles to play in sensitizing the young
generation to the positive ways of life.

    Kalu used the
opportunity to urge parents and guardians to live by example, adding that the
family remains a foundation unit for instilling good human virtues and moral
values in a child, pointing out that most of the youth that engage in thuggery,
violence, robbery, kidnapping and other immoral acts are products of poor home
    training.
    The frontline politician
also advised the President Buhari-led federal government to appoint youths into key
government positions, noting that the gesture will give the young generation a
sense of belonging in the Nigeria project.
    The former governor,
while congratulating the youth globally, urged them to demonstrate high moral
standards in their daily endeavours, stressing that the future is bright if
only the youth could remain focused, committed, patriotic and diligent.
