Ahead of the incoming Year 2020 Governorship election in Ondo State, South West Nigeria, not less than 20 politicians have indicated interest to contest the election alongside the incumbent governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu SAN who is seeking a second term under the ruling All Progressive Congress Party -APC.
In the Governor’s party alone, over ten aspirants are allegedly gunning for his position.
It will be recalled that at the beginning of this democratic dispensation in 1999, Ondo North produced the first pre-1999 Governor late Chief Adebayo Adefarati, who presided over the affairs of the state between 1999 and year 2003, before the pendulum swung to the south senatorial district with the late Dr. Olusegun Agagu governing the state between year 2003 and 2009.
The 2020 Ondo gubernatorial race will be between the ruling All Progressive Congress Party and People’s Democratic Party with other splinter political parties testing their weight in the contest.
