How I handled Obasanjo & Awolowo’s rift as Oyo MILAD — Gen. Jemibewon

In this red exclusive encounter with Asabe Afrika TV inside his Lagos home somewhere in Ogudu G.R.A, Lagos State (West Africa) General David Medayese Jemibewon (CFR, Mni) an elder statesman and former Governor of old Western State of Nigeria under late General Murthala Mohammed’s regime between August 1975 and March 1976 spoke on how he secured the confidence of his boss, General Obasanjo when his predecessor, Admiral Akin Aduwo was sacked as Governor of the Western States of Nigeria barely one month after Dodan Barrack sent him there over a suspected political rift between the then premier, Chief Obafemi Jeremiah Awolowo and General Olusegun Obasanjo in 1976.

Jemibewon who later became the first Governor of the newly created old Oyo State after Oyo, Ogun & Ondo were carved out of the old Western States also gave his views on the recent crisis laden political election between the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in his Kogi State of North Central Nigeria in 2019.

The Iyah-Gbede, Kogi State born Army top brass ruled Oyo State under General Obasanjo’s military regime between March 1976 and July 1978 before he was promoted as Adjutant General of the Nigerian Army towards the end of 1978.

He came back to limelight in 1999 when he was appointed Police Affairs Minister under President Olusegun Obasanjo’s civilian regime, a position he held with trans-formative strides till year 2000.

He is reputed to be the minister who created and institutionalized the Police Service Commission (PSC).
