In this new exclusive encounter on Asabe Afrika TV, we met with a Lagos, Nigeria based energy law expert BARRISTER FEMI ADISA-ISIKALU who shared with us his worrisome experience with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) consumer forum, an arbiter agency between energy consumers and producers in Nigeria, in relation with a case his chamber is handling for a frustrated consumer and how the agency tried to bungle the complainant’s intention with total negligence and inordinate behavior.
The NERC Consumer Forum according to the legal practitioner justified the fear of many Nigerians that indeed, there is no justice for power consumers under the banner of an ombudsman being ‘fed’ by the leviathan.
It will appear that a clause in the NESI act is responsible for the insufferable conduct of the forum towards consumers as the forum allegedly shows a high level of nonchalance towards consumers’ dilemma in the hands of DISCOS.
More and other issues on tariff increase were discussed verbatim.
