Yeye Hannah Afolabi…’I am growing and slowing down’
You are one of the closest friends of
Chief (Mrs.) Dupe Jemibewon, how would you describe her and her family?
All I know
is that Late Baba John Bosede Ajayi
happens to be a member of the church my sister attends in Ibadan, Catholic Church of the Ascension. When
I heard that Baba was gone, I felt a pain in my heart because he was a great
teacher, a disciplinarian, a man that loves his town, he loves Nigeria and he
loves his children. A man of his word, a man that trained his children the way
of the Lord, how to be disciplined, educated and self enlightened. A lot of
good things have been said about Baba and I believe it is true because my
sister told me about Baba. How devoted Baba was in the church and the role he
played in educating a set of young ones.

“I miss so many things about him, I cannot say
it all but there is nothing I can do about it, life has to continue because the
Holy Bible said ‘Until Death do us apart”.

You have been so scarce in the social
scene, where have you been?
I decided to
go low.
Why?
You know
with time, the more you grow and mature in age, the more you want to go on the
quite side of life. That is why I took a hiatus off the social scene.
Was there anything that triggered
your decision to shun social life?
Not at all,
not at all; I wasn’t a lousy person too not even after the demise of my
husband; when you have two people and one is no more, you want to feel the
vacuum and now that I am now stable I decided to be who I am before the fame
that came with my husband’s death.
It occurs to me that you are a very
beautiful woman, very charming and unique, are you looking at re-marrying?
No.
This is a serious matter, your beauty
is sparkling and people believed you lost your husband too early, is there no
suitor asking your hand in marriage?
I don’t want
to discuss that (Laughs wryly), I don’t want to discuss that, please. I don’t
want to discuss that.
Yeye Hanah Afolabi to Asabeafrika….’I wouldn’t really love to talk about re-marriage, please!’
Are you saying you want to remain
like this for the remaining of your good life?
Please, I
don’t want to talk about it. I am sorry, I am sorry. Please, let’s skip
this….for now I don’t want to say anything about marriage.
So, what is the secret of your
sparkling beauty?
It is
natural, it is just natural. I don’t bleach. I don’t use any other thing than
baby oil and that is all. So, my beauty is natural, it is God’s endowed and I
return all thanks to God.
When you stormed town yesterday, all
eyes went in your direction, there is no doubt that you are very stylish. What
does style mean to you?
Style is
being simple, being comfortable in your attire. Style is what you put on that
makes you feel okay; something that comforts you and makes you elegant at the
same time.
Late S. M. Afolabi
So, what do you miss about your
husband, Chief SM Afolabi?
I miss so
many things about him, I cannot say it all but there is nothing I can do about
it, life has to continue because the Holy Bible said ‘Until Death do us apart’.
So, he has gone and there is nothing I can do than to move on.
“Yes, I can remember one, while dying
on his sick bed he was telling me how he loved me and how he wished he could
stay long with me. He expressed sad feelings on how he was going to miss me but
he offered some prayers that he will be there for me even in death”.
Yeye Hannah Afolabi…’What my husband gave me is more than material thing’

What was the last gift he gave you
before his death?

Yes, I can
remember one, while dying on his sick bed he was telling me how he loved me and
how he wished he could stay long with me. He expressed sad feelings on how he
was going to miss me but he offered some prayers that he will be there for me
even in death. He opened the Bible and read a Psalm and prayed for me. He
blessed me. That was the last thing he did for me while on his sick bed.
What about material gift?
Material
thing is nothing my dear, nothing as strong as the love and passion he exudes.
The real and genuine love, agape love that is the biggest gift a man can ever
give a woman. That was the gift my husband gave me in his lifetime and I miss
him for that but like I said, life has to move on.
So what do you do for a living?
I am into
business; I do business and nothing more. I thank God for His mercies over our
family.
