This
morning, from the comfort of my hotel suite here in South Michigan, Chicago USA, I greet every believer around
the world. I wish you Christ’s Peace in this perilous season. We were warned in
the book of 2nd Timothy chapter
3 from verse 1 to 4 that “In the last days, perilous times will come
when men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud,
blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving,
slanderers, without self control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors,
headstrong, haughty and lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God”.

So, why
worry about the killings and destruction going on around the world? Why worry
about the economic recession and various misfortunes accompanying it? Those who
can discern and who can fit into God’s plan according to Psalm 23 verses 4 will
make exploit because He already promised to provide for their needs and guide
them with his angel according to Exodus
chapter 23 verses 20.

On this
note, our sermon for today is “Se la ma S’aku”. The English translation is ‘Rat
Race’. When you wake up in the middle of the night or early in the day,
and sight a rat running around in your living room, either big or small size,
you will notice how the rat will make a race in an attempt to evade your
arrest. By nature, rats are unpleasant guests. Why? They destroy rather than
build. They could eat up your certificate, eat and even urinate on your meal
and as well, destroy your important documents. So you keep chasing the rat
until you get it killed. But because the rat is smarter than you do, it keeps
hiding and hiding until the day you finally get it off your apartment. That is
what is called the Rat Race. It is a race that will always end the rat in a waste
bin. In life, we all struggle on the soil to acquire wealth but at the end of
our race, the same soil will swallow us.

share your life with and by the time you find one, you set up an elaborate event
called wedding. After that, the pressure to start rearing kids begins. Besides
raising a family, you want to earn your own real estate; you want to buy one or
two cars for you and your madam. Then, once the children start coming, you are
thinking of raising them—getting them into good schools and nurturing them to
become useful citizens. Why? Tori se la

In the book
of Genesis Chapter 13, we saw the
story of the journey of Lot and his
wife. When God told Abraham to leave
his family house in Haran (Gen.
12:1-3) the journey was never about Lot
or Lot’s family. The message was
strictly for Abraham and his family,
to leave the comfort of his family house in Haran,
his relatives, and everything familiar, so that he might start fresh in another
land. God gave Abraham the hope of fathering a great nation; in fact, God said he
would become the father of many nations! Abraham
felt compelled to follow this great vision given to him by God even when he had
nothing else to rely on.

Truth of the

The vision Abraham received fits only him and Sarah his wife. The vision marched the
needs and desires of Abraham and Sarah. The Bible made us know that Lot’s men and Abraham’s men later clashed at
Bethel. In verse 5 of Gen. 13, the Bible enlightened us further, that Lot who journeyed up with Abraham also made riches in flocks and
herds and tents. And the land was not
able to contain what they both possessed and that led to envy and jealousy
because their possessions were so great. From verse 8-13, we saw how Abraham
pleaded with Lot to separate from his
family. He gave Lot the opportunity to
pick the choicest part of town even before he did and Lot lifted his eyes and went for the plains of Jordan (where
the empire of Sodom & Gomorrah was domiciled). Verse 14 said “And the Lord said to Abraham, after Lot had
separated from him; ‘lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are—northward,
southward, eastward, and westward; for all the land which you see I give to you
and your descendants forever”. He equally promised to make Abraham’s descendants as plenty as the
dust of the earth. That was a covenant God gave Abraham immediately Lot left him.

Psalm 127 verse
1 says “Unless the Lord builds the
house, they labor in vain who built it; unless the Lord guards the city, the
watchman stays awake in vain”. Abraham prospered in a dry land and Lots went up to a mega city and he still
missed it. Why? Lot wanted to set a
table for himself instead of allowing the Lord to set a table for him like God
promised in Psalm 23:5.

In Genesis 19 verse 25-26, we saw what
happened to Lot and his family. At
the time when the Lord rained brimstone and fire from the heavens on Sodom and Gomorrah, Lot’s wife who was
too sensitive to what they were leaving behind looked behind and instantly
became a pillar of salt—maybe Lot’s

From verse 30 to verse 38, we saw how Lot’s two daughters in the course of
preserving his lineage gave him wine inside a cave and took turn to sleep with
him and by that, they raised a family. So, in the end both daughters of Lot were with child by their father—Awon Omo Looti Sa ku!

Today, many
Nigerians are like Lot; they don’t want
to wait for the Lord to set a table before them. Instead, they will rather set
a table for themselves. You starved yourself from Primary School up to the University Only for you, to find out
that there is no job in the market. But because you don’t want to go back to
the original factory which the Lord God founded for us, that is the arable
land. God said we should till the soil and the land will bring forth results
for us. But instead, we rather want to work in an oil company or work in the
customs services or work in the immigration or join politics while many other will love to travel out and
die in the deserts of Dubai, Italy and elsewhere—Nitori ta ma saku.

Yes, we are
in a rat race. Every year, we disturb the government and organizations to
sponsor us to Saudi Arabia or Jerusalem; we run from pillar to post
because we wanted to be addressed as
Alhaji or Jerusalem Privilege

live in fear of bombs. Every minute, the driver driving you around is warning
you of an imminent bomb explosion— toripe

We run to Jerusalem
every year to claim holiness because we think that is the Holy Land. Former President Goodluck Jonathan was even
duped down to Jerusalem with the
promise that he is going to win presidential election but he was disappointed. In Mecca,
people die in droves and calamities of larger proportions do happen yet we
still run and rush in to become Alhajis
and Alhajas every year. Two years ago,
many Nigerians died as a result of a fatal crane accident inside the so called
holy mosque of Mecca but our people lack wisdom—toripe se la ma s’aku.

Let’s look
at the accident in Exodus Chapter 14
from verse 15, God told Moses to raise his rod and stretch out
his hand over the (red) sea and divide it. And the same God made the heart of
the Egyptians to be hardened up and
as the Israelite went through
successfully, the Egyptians and Pharaoh’s soldiers followed suit. But
what happened? In verse 19, the Lord made us know that His Angel who went before the camp of Israel, moved and went behind them and there was confusion in their
midst as the pillar of cloud went from before them and stood behind them. The
cloud came between the camp of the Egyptian
and the camp of the Israelite; thus
it was cloud and darkness to one side while it gave light by night to the other
side so that the one (Egyptians) did not come near the other (Israel) throughout
the night. If you read what happened between verse 21 and 28, you will
marvel at God’s work. Awon Ara Egypt Sa

The Egyptian died while running hard in a
tight rat race. They discovered late that they were in trouble. It is just like
when you set a trap for a rat and the rat runs into the trap, you will see how
humble the rat will turn and even act towards you. Most Nigerians are like the Egyptians who saw all the terrible signs
but still ran along into the sea in their bid to chase and catch up with their
divinely freed slave but they were consumed in their own skirmishes—Won saku!.

Today you
see greedy Nigerian Politicians, they are always running from one position to
the other—they will start from Local Government Chairman to State House of
Assembly member and from there they want to go to the senate and from the senate
they want to become Governor of their respective states. Some Governors even
ran from their two term tenure into the Senate and such men, when you see them
in the senate session, they are always dozing because they are already worn out
from sleepless nights and other mundane activities—won ma’a saku.

In present
day Nigeria, some politicians are hiding billions of Naira inside soak-away, building sites, septic tanks and other
funny-funny places. Is it because of the multi-million Naira Properties they
want to acquire or the bullet proof cars they want to purchase; the gold, the
jewelries and the nice clothes they want to wear to church or other places to oppress
their neighbors? Have they forgotten what God promised to do with them in Jeremiah chapter 17 verses 11? The Lord
described them as foolish men and women. He further cursed them “As a partridge that broods but does not
hatch; so is he who get riches, but not by right; it will leave him in the
midst of his days, and at his end he will be a fool”. No wonder, God is
always troubling them with cancer, high blood pressure and all sorts of Egyptian illnesses. They are never at
rest with their health system because he who steals will never be at peace with
his conscience—Nitoripe won ma sa ku.

Why do you
have to buy people’s conscience to remain relevant in politics? Why do you want
to control the world? Why can’t you allow the Lord to run your race for you? Or
can you add one day to your living days on earth? Politics has always been a

The first
act of politics took place in Genesis 25
verse 23 “And the Lord said to her;
‘two nations are in your womb, two
peoples shall be separated from your body; one people shall be stronger than the other; And the older shall serve
the younger”. That was a pure political statement by God himself. He made
it certain from the womb that Esau will
lose his seniority to Jacob and it
happened.

In the book
of 1st King from the
beginning (Chapter 1), we saw how David’s
surviving scion, Adonijah took claim to the throne of his father and prepared
heavily to succeed David. He made
sacrifices, invited all his full and half brothers to a feast but failed to
invite Nathan the Prophet or Solomon the son of Bathsheba, his father’s concubine. But what did Nathan do? He went and sought out Bathsheba’s gut and made her go seek David’s blessing in his very old and
sick condition; to make the old man have her own son, Solomon as king instead of Adonijah who was Absalom younger brother. He taught her
what to say and how to say it. She went in and sweet tongued the King and Nathan equally joined her and at last, David was made to swear by the Lord
God of Israel and he gave his kingdom to Solomon—that was pure politics. Solomon
eventually rode on King David’s mule
and Adonijah
and all his men were disgraced when Jonathan
brought the news of the newly installed King
Solomon to them at their kingship feast.
