For the very first time in history, Juju Music Legend and one of Africa’s best music composer, Chief Commander now Evangelist (Professor) EBENEZER OBEY FABIYI (MFR) has opened up on his relationship with a late socialite and celebrity, Chief Jimoh Ishola who was the Executive Chairman of Jimsol Nigeria Ltd, a nail manufacturing company in Lagos of the 70s.
OBEY, in his album “Inter reformers” had did a special track for Chief Ejigbadero and a friend, F. Areagbo, praising their business acumen and tenacity to high heaven and describing Chief Ejigbadero as an epitome of hard work in the Lagos society of the 70s.
However, Chief Ejigbadero who used to have his factory at Matori Estate, Mushin area of Lagos, later had a land scandal involving him and one Chief Raji Oba in the Alimosho area of Lagos.
He was accused of killing the same Raji Oba over a large portion of land he wanted for himself at the time. The case dragged from 1975 to 1979 as the then Lagos Director of Public Prosecution led the prosecution and built an impregnable fortress of evidence against Chief Gbadero.
He was alleged to have killed Raji Oba over a piece of land he claimed he bought in Alimosho village sometimes in 1974. He was challenged by some villagers who disputed Ejigbadero’s claim to ownership of the said land which was said to actually belong to the Raji Oba family.
The land which Ejigbadero wanted to use for a massive construction allegedly contain cocoa, kolanut and other cash crops. The villagers claimed Ejigbadero after several unsuccessful attempt to take over the land came one day with some alleged thugs and ‘killed’ Raji Oba who was relaxing in front of his house. It was Saturday, August 22, 1975 and the time was around 7:30 pm. Coincidentally, at the same time the alleged killing was ongoing, Ejigbadero was believed to be having a naming ceremony party for the new child of his 4th wife in Matori area of Mushin.
The story is a very controversial one and till date, history of land dispute in Nigeria and Yoruba land will never be written without the Ejigbadero case study.
It is believed that the case is what led General Olusegun Obasanjo to enact the land Use Act as Head of State in 1978.
But Chief Commander now Evangelist Ebenezer OBEY who is one of the elements of the Ejigbadero’s living times, gave a different perception of who late Chief Jimoh Ishola aka Ejigbadero was in his life time.
