Sammy, a former editor with OVATION International Magazine was part of a recent event organized in honor of the late wife and former First Lady of Nigeria, Hajiya (Dr.) MARYAM BABANGIDA by her daughter, Hajiya (Dr.) Aisha Shinkafi (Nee Babangida) at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja on Thursday, January 30th, 2020.

In this encounter, he took us round the story of the mystery of the IBB dynasty and why many Nigerians don’t understand President Babangida famously called ‘The Evil Genius’.

  3. The only positive about babangida is that he toppled this stupid fulani idiot we call president now. Babangida prevented buhari from carrying out his plan then. Now we have no such evil genius to topple this stupid tribalistic fool and the cabal he is serving. Babangida destroyed his legacy by annulling the first popular election in history of Nigeria

  8. I think these guys need to watch the whole video and be a little more objective. Nigeria has had a largely bad crop of leaders and Babangida himself was as imperfect. But was there any good in him? Or was he all evil? This is my understanding of him as a journalist who was first to interview him after leaving office and as an objective Nigerian. No one claims he was perfect, but if there was any good… and greatest leader does not mean best leader. Sometimes we need to rise above sentiments and be didactic.

  14. It is easy to crucify IBB but the future is going to be kind to him. Was Abiola a saint? Did Vatsa nurse the ambition to be President one day? I wish we can get the tape recording of the day IBB sworn in Vatsa as Minister for Federal Territory. The way Vatsa looked at IBB disdainfully was picked by Reporters. I was privileged to have just a few minutes encounter with IBB as a University student. We were demonstrating and carrying placards for different reasons. IBB called us for dialogue but instead, some students decided to stone him. We missed a big opportunity. Leaders are not weaklings, so expected to make tough decisions. I think baba OBJ is the best followed by IBB.

  15. People tend to forget to things easily.who ever praise Babangida as a good leader need sycratic attention, or may be benevited from IBB miss rule. This is a man that started the Nigeria predicament we are nursing till today. Legalized corruption. He single handled pocketed Nigeria $12 billion for Guff war. And no one there say anything he will be sent to untimely grave. Under him no military governor he was rotating from one state to another do not looted heavy money from the state. Remember he anualed the most generally acceptable peaceful election in the history of Nigeria if not in Africa, with flimsy excuses. He introduce and assigned potifolio potifolio of first lady to his wife with heavy funding. The bad this done to our economy is more than good. It was so bad that late president Shagari have to lament that IBB was ravaging Nigeria with heavy looting not stealing. He said when he was in office it was difficult for him to raise a million Naira, he can't just take it direct from government treasury, he has to call some of the minsters to raise it among themselves, N150k, N200k. But IBB was just looting Nigeria treasury in billions . How can evil genious person ever be a good leader. He completely laid bad precedent for Nigeria. Military and Democratic rule in Nigeria. There is a day of judgement for every human action and reaction under heaven.
