How Chief Igbinedion chased out ‘ghost tenants’ from his properties

Chief Igbinedion

Not many people in
Nigeria and elsewhere are aware that the Edo-born
business mogul and multi-billionaire Chief Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion,
the Esama
of Benin Kingdom
is neck deep into the lucrative Real Estate Business.

Apparently to be able
to harness and coordinate his vast estates across the country and all over the
world, Chief Igbinedion established a company called Crown
Estates Limited
to manage his numerous estates which are not only in
the major cities of Nigeria, but also in the United Kingdom, South Africa Jamaica, the
United
States
of America, in Ghana and Sierra Leone.

City
People
learnt that before Chief Igbinedion established
the company, Crown Estates Ltd, he could not identify some of his houses,
especially in Benin-city, the Edo State capital where he lives as some people were living in some of the houses
without paying rents, as nobody came around to demand rents.
It is on record that Chief
Igbinedion
has one of the largest housing estates in Nigeria
and located in Okada, his country home and
headquarters of Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State.
Hundreds of the
students of his Igbinedion University, Okada, use a part of this vast housing
estate for hostel accommodation. This estate houses 200 well furnished storey
buildings.
In Benin-city, the biggest
shopping plazas are owned by Chief Igbinedion and managed by the
Crown Estates Limited.
Some of the shopping
plazas are the Ede Shopping Plaza, located along the busy Airport road, International
World Trade Center
located at Dawson/Akpakpava road in Benin-city.
Also in
Benin-city,
the Chief has VIP guest houses dotted around the Government
Reservation Area
of the state. These guest houses are purely for Chief
Igbinedion’s
use and they can accommodate not fewer than 500 guests
at the same time.
During ceremonies, no chief
Igbinedion’s
guest stays in the hotel, no matter how many they maybe,
they could be conveniently accommodated.
In Victoria Garden City (VGC),
Ikoyi, Victoria Island in Lagos, South West Nigeria
are located several
well laid out estates.
In South Africa, Chief igbinedion is
said to own a whole street where estates are located, so also in London
and New York.
There is hardly any
city in the world where Chief Igbinedion does not own a
housing estate and all of them are run and managed by the Crown Estates Limited.
People say
Chief Igbinedion’s
hobby is buying of properties; he keeps on buying
and buying, but never sells any of his property.
It is note worthy that
the National
Petroleum Development Company
(NPDC) a subsidiary of the NNPC’s
vast headquarters in Benin-city is located in one of the Igbinedion
Estates
along Sapele road in Benin-city
