Life @ 80, fear for Nigeria & my Mike Adenuga Story — Gen. Jemibewon

In this red exclusive encounter with Asabe Afrika TV inside his Lagos home somewhere in Ogudu G.R.A, Lagos State (West Africa) General David Medayese Jemibewon (CFR, Mni) an elder statesman and former Governor of old Western State of Nigeria under late General Murthala Mohammed’s regime between August 1975 and March 1976 spoke on his life at 80, fears for Nigeria and what he wants the present Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces, General Muhammadu Buhari to do before he leaves power.

The General told us the story of his humble beginning from nothing to something, saying he was never driven by any ambition as an Army officer.

The Iyah-Gbede, Kogi State born Army top brass who ruled Oyo State under General Obasanjo’s military regime between March 1976 and July 1978 before he was promoted as Adjutant General of the Nigerian Army towards the end of 1978 spoke about his challenging experience in the Military right from the war front to the barrack.

General Jemibewon who is a good friend of African billionaire business man and founder Glo & Coinoil, Otunba Dr. Michael Agbolade Ishola Adenuga aka Mike Adenuga Junior spoke on his cordial relationship with the Ijebu born business guru and why Adenuga’s late mother, Chief (Mrs.) Oyindamola Adenuga (Yeye Oba of Ijebu land) held in high esteem. He has good words for the late Yeye Oba who passed away in 2005 at the age of 90.

The General came back to limelight in 1999 when he was appointed Police Affairs Minister under President Olusegun Obasanjo’s civilian regime, a position he held with transformative strides till year 2000.

He is reputed to be the minister who created and institutionalized the Police Service Commission (PSC).

  1. This reporter sef…that was wrong of you to refer to those other countries banned by the U.S. as 10-10 kobo and kindergarten countries! First of all, when you look at the minimal progress Nigeria in all its so-called glory has achieved, we are the real example of a 10-10 kobo and kindergarten country. Ordinary power, water, roads, security we cannot provide for our citizens. Other than dressing up, fashion, driving luxury cars, what tangible, reputable things have we accomplished? Even transportation zero!

  2. General David Jemibewon can be referred to as the Best Oyo state governor ever. He was my dad's (May his soul RIP) junior in Offa grammar school. As God would have it, my dad served under him when he was governor of Oyo state. My dad till his death spoke highly of him. Quite intelligent and humble. Imagine a former governor stopping his car so as to say hello to his former senior in school!!! He still referred to my dad on the day and throughout their encounters as "senior". Continue to age gracefully sir.
