Marriage institution is dying because today’s society breeds half baked boys who sag their trousers & wear golden chains—Silverbird Stylist, Chika Maduneme + Why I dropped my Law certificate to become a Make-Up artist

Miss Chika Meduneme with Gbenga Dan Asabe after the encounter

Chika Maduneme is tall, beautiful and intelligent. You will never run into this Anambra
State—South Eastern Nigeria born beauty without taking something out of her. It
is either you are lust for her natural beauty or you are caught by her
intelligence or you are haunted by her philosophies which keeps you thinking
after you must have left her ambience.

A very strong personality with a tender
approach to life, Chika shocked this
blogger on Monday December 14 when he was invited for a Studio Interview at Silverbird Television in Lagos. Despite
my lateness by ten minutes, this tall, stylish and beautiful girl rushed at me
and changed my looks in just two minutes. I decided to pin her down for an
interview after my session on STV and she turned out to not just be a bundle of
talent but an epitome of beauty and good philosophies. I must confess, Chika wowed me with her majestic talent
and her understanding of life issues. She read law but practices as a make-up
artiste. This natural girl is angry that majority of young men of these days
are fickle minded entities with no intellectual substance. Find a quite moment
and enjoy the chat with Chika Maduneme.
Enjoy!

Chika Meduneme to Asabeafrika…’I have bigger plans than being a Make-Up artiste’
Who is this lovely beautiful angelic
lady who makes the faces of guests looks unique on STV?
My name is Chika Maduneme. I am from Anambra state, South Eastern Nigeria.
I was very surprised with the way you
changed my looks this morning under few seconds before going on air, how did
you became a make-up artist?
Well, I will
say the Job began me. I didn’t decide the job the job decided me. It began when
I was doing my Youth Service (NYSC) and I was looking for means of income and I
just felt ‘okay, why not invest in make up and then I can always do anything
with the proceeds’ and subsequently I like the issue making people look
beautiful. I like beautiful faces, beautiful places, and beauty in general. I
like aesthetic and that was what really fired my zeal. I can make somebody look
beautiful, I can make somebody sound beautiful I can make people look beautiful
and I am just generally a beauty inclined person, that is me and that is my
brand.
Chika Meduneme…The advocate of Make-Up law…

Are you the first child of your
parent?

Yeah, I am
the first child of my parent, we are three and I was an only child for a very
long time. I come from a very traditional family. I am quite old but up till
now, I am not allowed to live on my own. You have to be under a leadership
structure because I came from a family that believes that a woman is always
under authority. You are first of all a daughter, a sister, a wife and a mother
and at every point in time, you are under an authority. For instance now, when
I go out I do have a curfew. By 8pm I should be home. No matter where I am and
wherever I go I should be back home by 8pm.

The other two are brothers or
sisters?
A brother
and a sister, they are quite young at the moment.
Who are your parents?
Chika Meduneme…’Even though i am a grown up i am still under authority’

Mr. and Architect (Mrs.) Anthony
Maduneme
from Anambra State

While growing up as a kid did you
ever thought you were going to become a make-up artiste or there were other
dreams you had?
Well, I
still have my dreams because make-up is not the only thing that I do I sell out
lands, I sell properties too (General Laughter)
You make me laugh as I can feel your
hustling and bustling spirit?
Trust me,
the hustling is real. Trust me; I have to hustle because I believe that every
human being has a talent inside of him because I don’t believe any human being
is born empty. We are actually born with something inside us because if you
look at the parable of the talent hunt in the Bible, where the master gave one
talent, two talent and five talents to three servants and we had two of the
servants (The one with two and five talents) multiplying theirs while the other
one (The one with one talent) hide his own talent. I feel that every human
being has something to contribute to the society you find yourself, it will be
a very big shame if you go back to God with all the talents He has put inside
of you without utilizing them.  There are
lots of things that go on inside of me everyday and my prayer is that by the
time I die I want to have actualize everything. That is my prayer.
Chika Meduneme to Asabeafrika…’I Cherish my natural beauty than anything else’

You have a very arresting height,
what does that do to men when they see you?

I don’t know
because it seems that it is not working enough, as you can see there is no ring
on my finger and somehow I can see that the influence of Pop culture has really
derailed a lot of men. What we have today to forgive my word are “half baked
boys” who like sagging their trousers and wearing golden chains with no
intellectual maturity to compliment. And I keep wondering where are the real
men, where are they? Where are they? Where are they really? I want to believe
that we now have a lot of males in today’s society with scarcity of men. There
is a scarcity of real men in town.
So, what do you think happened to the
real men, why are they scarce; was it society that failed to breed them or
parental quality dropped?
Maybe it is
as a result of the Civil War (Laughter) Yeah, because for men who were bold
enough to carry guns, they may be the real men in the real sense but those that
are being bred now I really did not know but I will blame society still, I will
blame parental upbringing too and I will also put the responsibility on the men
because no matter what, everybody hold themselves the responsibility to be
responsible to themselves. Like I keep saying ‘learning is collective but
development is personal’
“What we have today to forgive my
word are “half baked boys” who like sagging their trousers and wearing golden
chains with no intellectual maturity to compliment. And I keep wondering where
are the real men, where are they? Where are they? Where are they really?”
Chika Meduneme to Asabeafrika…’I appreciate intelligence in any relationship because that is what sells most’

(Cuts in) That is a great one from
you my dear?

Thank you
Dan, you must and you should put upon yourself the propensity to make yourself
grow, there must be pressure to be something and to make yourself grow. If in
2014 I was at 5% by 2015 I should expect to be at 15% but today, people expect
things to be handed over to them on a platter of gold. And again, we know there
are no jobs in the country, the society is not fair in that area and the
saddest part of everything is that schools keep bringing out thousands of
graduates every year and you ask yourself ‘where are the jobs? There are no
jobs, you know. And then, you expect that
old people up there  that are
expected to retire at 65 will give a plan that will accommodate the incoming
crowd of young people; we cant predict that a thousand of people in this age
bracket will be retiring in a year so that we can have the new younger
generation come in and take newer positions. So, what happen is that the
younger ones whose opportunities have been curtailed by the unyielding old ones
must think inward. This old ones are not going to retire for the younger ones
to take charge or create a new lease of life for them, so, they need to take
charge of their own life as well. But the irony is that they don’t want to look
inward and find out the talent God has actually deposited in them and do
something to exhibit and exploit that hidden talent. You see, when a man goes
inside himself and look for what he can make profit out of his person, trust
me, that man will earn my respect.
If Mr. Right is to come for you now,
what potential would you be looking out for in him?
In life, I
won’t say there is a Mr. Right.
Chika Meduneme to Asabeafrika ‘The Problem of the Scarcity of men borders me much’

What do you mean?

I don’t
think there is Mr. Right and that is true.
But that is funny
No, it is
not funny. Because you have to be right for somebody to be right, right
attracts right. For Mr. Right, he has to be God fearing, he has to posses the
hustling spirit because even if he has the job now, the job can go away
tomorrow. So, what happens? He has to posses the hustling spirit. Respectful,
God fearing and dark skinned.
Do I hear you say dark skinned?
Yeah, dark
skinned. And he must be tall…
I was actually expecting you to give
your preferred height as part of the criteria?
You know the
height will help a bit in a way, maybe because of the children but I don’t
expect to have very tall, tall children but once a man is God fearing, he
respects family, he respects the fact that in Africa we are so much
interconnected to the family set up and we respect family, he fears God and he
has my interest at heart as somebody who is a husband material, somebody who I
can lean my heart upon his shoulder then he can get it from me.
Getting hot with the chat with Chika…

But why all this criteria?

I keep
saying this that on the day of wedding, once the wife says ‘I do’ you have
literally put yourself at his foot, so, if he is a kind of a Godly man, he
actually picks you up like a seed, find you a conducive soil and puts you in
there and watching you grow. So, the person must be a man who will see me grow,
who will re-brand me and make me better than I was yesterday and if he has all
this, he is good for me.
“Fashion to me is something that
doesn’t go out of style, something comfortable, and something that is not
trending. Something that is classic, something that stands the text of time,
something that stands years, stands criticism, stand fashion and stands
everything”
The GDA with Chika Meduneme

What informs your fashion sense?
Right now, you are wearing a traditional hair, why?

I like to be
myself because beauty has been put into a box in our society because girls
believe that if I don’t have a human hair, if I don’t have all long nails on,
if I don’t have pencils on long nails it means that I am not a “complete girl”.
I feel the most important aspect of beauty is for you to be natural and be
yourself, don’t try to make the assumption of over expressing yourself. Be
yourself, if I want make hair with human braids fine, if I want short hair
fine. If I want to make my hair into the Primary School and secondary school
style like I do have on, it is what I want to do, it is what I want not what is
expected of me. So, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, you don’t need to
become a tearing face before you maintain your beauty.
Tell me about your school and what
you study?
University
of Benin, I read law.
Heart-to-Heart with Chika Meduneme

What! Law! So how come you are a
stylist?

I get very,
very strange reactions like you are doing now anytime I say this. I believe
with law, I have opportunity to do many things because law as a discipline has
no expiring date. It is something you always practice at the right time and
there are lots of branches of law, there is corporate law, there is marine law,
there is real estate law and a lot of them. So, law is a discipline that is
flexible yet influential. No matter the aspect of the economy, there is always
a law that actually backs it up. I am not yet aware of maybe, make-up law.
May be you could be the harbinger of
the make up law?
(Laughter)
law is a huge profession
 Do you have role models?
There are
few people I like so well, People like Chimamanda-Ngozi
Adichei,
I love her.
Getting hot with the chat with Chika…

Would you be practicing law someday?

There is
very huge, huge possibility for me to practice law. I may be here next year and
I may be out of this place next year because there are a lot of things inside
of me and I wont put my self down on something because my goal in life is to be
able to work from my house and then have time for my kids and my entire family
all from my house.
What does fashion mean to you?
Fashion to
me is something that doesn’t go out of style, something comfortable, and
something that is not trending. Something that is classic, something that
stands the text of time, something that stands years, stands criticism, stand
fashion and stands everything. Something that once you put on, it is timeless
and not time bound. That is it, and again; being comfortable in your own self.
I think the best fashion accessory is actually your self confidence because
once you are confident from inside-out. If you don’t allow what you have on to
determine what is inside of you. If your inside is beautiful, then you can
radiate with whatever you put on even if the gown you put on is N5000 but because you are confident of
yourself from the inside, you actually carry the gown as if it is a gown of N50; 000; 00 so, confidence, self
confidence and being comfortable in yourself and knowing that I am not just
wearing something because it is in vogue I am wearing it because it fits the
kind of body I actually have is the best attitude of fashion.
Chika to the GDA…’Nothing as natural as natural beauty’

You appeared to me like someone that
loves philosophy?

I love
intelligent conversation really; I love intelligence because that is what
sells. When I speak with you for the first five minute I can read your level of
intelligent quotient (IQ) and in most cases a lot of people fall short of high
IQ and that is somehow embarrassing.
What kind of dress I won’t catch you
wearing on a normal day?
I don’t know
to be honest. You probably won’t catch me wearing something that if my biro
falls down I may not be comfortable to pick it up. I will not be seen wearing
something very short and then I will try to drag it down or something be very
uncomfortable in it. Like I said, fashion is all about wearing something that
is inside of you, you will feel very confident.
Thanks for sharing your great
intellect with me?
You are
welcome.
