Ogun To Launch PSP In Waste Management

In a bid to
ensure effective municipal waste management and make its environment clean,
Ogun State Government says it will introduce Private Sector Participation (PSP)
on Waste Management in the State.
While
fielding questions from newsmen in Abeokuta, the Commissioner for Environment,
Mr Bolaji Oyeleye said Government had been solely responsible for waste
management for a long time, adding that such arrangement was no longer
sustainable.

He said
Government would introduce Private Sector Participation (PSP) later in the year
to assist in managing waste generated across the State.
Advert
‘’It has been the exclusive duty of Government to manage waste
in our major cities: Ifo, Ota, Ijebu-Ode, Sagamu, Mowe, Ilaro, Ibafo and
Abeokuta. However, we have seen that this is not sustainable in the long run
because it is more or less like a drain in the resources of Government’’,
Oyeleye said.
Oyeleye
assured that Government would continue to scale-up its drive towards ensuring
that the State remains an environment clean conscious State.
The Commissioner also disclosed that the Ministry was
already in talk with Companies that have shown interest in the establishment of
bio mass thermal plant for generating clean energy from waste, adding that the
efforts being made would manifest soon.
