Okoro lauds Umahi’s agric initiatives

A member of Ebonyi State Advisory Committee on Local Government Projects Implementation and Monitoring, Hon. Stanley Okoro, has described the policies of the Governor David Umahi-led administration in Ebonyi State as people friendly, noting that the exemplary leadership qualities of the state helmsman are worth emulating.
According to Okoro, who was one-time Special Adviser on Youths to Abia State Governor, the execution of pro-poor projects across the 13 local government areas in the state is a testament to the fact that Governor Umahi is passionate about the masses, adding that the governor has not betrayed the trust of Ebonyians.
He pointed out that Governor Umahi is on a rescue mission aimed at rebuilding the state and empowering the people.
Addressing a group of journalists at his country home in Ekoli-Edda,  Okoro said, “it is glaring that the giant strides of Governor Umahi will earn him second term in office in 2019. The accomplishments of the state chief executive are evident in all sectors especially agriculture, infrastructure, education, civil service reforms, health and security.
In order to ensure food sufficiency and guarantee commercial export of agricultural produce, the Umahi-led administration obtained N2 billion loan from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for disbursement to deserving farmers. The government has also put back on track the rice clusters at Ikwo and Izzi which have since started full-scale production while the one sited at Oso-Edda is being re-activated.
“It is gratifying to note that the state government procured over 200 tractors for mechanized farming including the acquisition of 85,000 hectares of land which the government has entered into partnership with UNIDO for purposes of embarking on large scale rice, cassava, tomatoes and fish production while arrangements are in progress for the installation of additional rice mills across the state.
“In the area of infrastructure, Governor Umahi has embarked on aggressive construction and reconstruction of roads in the urban and rural areas including the 23.7km Hilltop-Nwofe, 15.5km Nkalagu/Ehamafu and 23Km Amasari/Okposi/Uburu roads.
“The infrastructural regeneration policy is linked to the agricultural initiative so as to create easy access for products to be transported from farmlands to markets. With the improvement in road infrastructure, farmers have been making more profits on their products.
“The establishment of Laser Fever Centre, Abakaliki, the first of its kind in the East of the Niger has provided succour to indigent patients suffering from complex ailments such as cancer, heart, liver and kidney diseases.
“The policy thrust of the Umahi-led administration is anchored on human capital development and education is key in this regard. The Ebonyi Safe School Imitative which has been endorsed by stakeholders including UNESCO and inaugurated with the distribution of 4,000 Safe School Manuals and training 600 teachers as Safe School Ambassadors has recorded huge success.
“The achievements of Governor Umahi thus far are incredible”, he remarked.
Okoro called on politicians in the state to bury their differences and support Governor Umahi in taking Ebonyi State to enviable heights, adding that the welfare of the people is a top priority in the policy thrust of the Umahi-led government.
