Why I went into politics – D-One | Says “I have decided to stop complaining inside my parlor”

Otunba Dayo Adeneye (D-One) to the GDA…..’I am a possibilitarian’

 Speaking
to your number one celebrity encounter blog asabeafrika after the Tuesday 11th historic Odogbolu declaration in Ogun state, Otunba
Dayo Adeneye
aka D-One told your
Africa’s number 1 celebrity encounter blog asabeafrika
the reason why he is dumping the tube for the soap box.

He reacted to our
first question like this “Well, all of us are political animals like I always
say. Some of us are just more active than others. Whenever you seat in a beer
parlor or you sit in your living room and you talk about what the government is
doing, weather it is the President, weather is the governor or your local
government chairman; you are talking about roads, you are talking about light,
you are talking about welfare, you are being political. Some of us just choose
to be a little more active in it. I for one I am one of those people who have
decided not to sit on the fence and complain anymore. I don’t want to be one of
those people that will sit in my parlor and complain anymore. I have decided to
participate actively; I want to be an agent of change.

Otunba Dayo Adeneye (D-One) to GDA…..’I have decided to come down from the fence and stop complaining and join in the activity of change’
Just like we did in the
entertainment sector like you said; I want to become an agent of change in
governance. Everybody knows our track records; everybody knew what Dayo Adeneye and Kenny Ogungbe did with the entertainment sector, with the music
industry. We came and by the grace of God we were able to help Nigeria
revolutionalize the entertainment industry and we have always wondered and
imagined that  if we could do that with
our own funds, with the little and scarce resources that we had, we also
wondered what can we do if we have the machinery of government behind us? So,
we decided to join instead of sitting in the parlor and complaining, we decided
to join in governance. It is our civic right, it is our constitutional right to
vote and be voted for. Anybody can contest for any political office or
government office in this country and that I why I decided. I for one have
decided to stop complaining and do something about it. Instead of talking about
problems, I want to be part of the solutions”.

“I for one I am one of those people
who have decided not to sit on the fence and complain anymore. I don’t want to
be one of those people that will sit in my parlor and complain anymore. I have
decided to participate actively; I want to be an agent of change. Just like we
did in the entertainment sector like you said; I want to become an agent of
change in governance”.
Otunba Dayo Adeneye (D-One)….’Life is all about service and that is what we are going to give in politics

What
difference is the Grammy Awards special visitor going to bring to politics in
Ogun state?  “If you know my track record,
i have always blazed trails, I don’t follow the bandwagon, I blaze my own trail
and you can see from this gathering here, everybody is here, not just from the
entertainment sector. Everybody from government is here because they know my
track records; they know what I have done in the past. If I can take unknown
young men and God helped me to make them into multi-stars, multi-millionaires,
mega-millionaires; people who are known all over the world. If you mention a Tuface or you mention a D-Banj or you mention a Tony Tetuila or you mention Idris Abdulkareem the first and the
youngest Nigerian to carry the Olympic
Torch
. We produced him, 9ice and
all of those people, I mean, to God be the glory. If that track record is
there, give us a chance that is what we are saying. We have a track record, we
are known we know what we are capable of doing; give us a chance in governance
and see what we can do.”
Otunba Dayo Adeneye (D-One) to asabeafrika….’Is it cars or properties that will make me join a party that does not align with my personality, no. I am in APC for service
Another question is that why is a big
entertainment guru like D-One not
aspiring for house of representative or senate, why a state house of assembly? We
asked but the TV star calmly replied “Like I said, check my track record. I
have always done things that impact lives immediately. I was a teacher, I left
a good paying job in the United States to become a teacher and I taught for
seven years. I could have done something else but I enjoy being physical,
interacting with people, impacting knowledge, making a difference in people’s
lives. For me to go to Yaba Tech and
pick three kids, Idris Abdulkareem, Tony Tetuila and Eddy Remedy and turned them into big brands and not just that
alone, I did it with other stars; I could have choose to go and work at NNPC
but I didn’t do that because I like changing lives and those people when they
become successful, they contribute to society, they hire managers, they hire
band dancers and they pay taxes. Believe me they pay a lot of taxes; so, I
prefer to do something that bring me closer to the people.
Otunba Dayo Adeneye (D-One) to asabeafrika….’We must start to take decisions that will change our lives at this moment’
Though I have been
asked ‘why don’t you go for senate? Why don’t you go to the house of
representative? If I do that I will be seating in Abuja and how would that impact my constituency in Odogbolu? How would that impact my
people? As you can see here today we are giving out free cards because I want
people to even start feeling my impact; my connections in the corporate world I
want to bring to bring to bear in my immediate constituency and follow it up
there. You don’t start your education from the university; you start from the
primary school up to the secondary and end it at the university. So, test me
and see what I can do. Then, it will be you that will say ‘No, no, no, you have
done so well here,  we are taking you to
the next step, go for house of rep, no, no, no, go for senate; as a matter of
fact we want you to be the next governor’. You don’t climb the mountain from
the top. Ibi Pelebe la ti n mole, (You eat a bean cake from the smallest part)
that is what the Yorubas said. I want my people to feel me, I want them to feel
the impact and then they will tell me ‘ah, no, no, no, go up’. When you humble yourself
you will be exalted and that is what my life has always been about”

“I am a journalist, I have a master’s
degree in radio and television; it is my first constituency. That is the
platform on which I am going to reach out to people why should I abandon it? It
is something I love, it is something I am passionate about and come to think of
it why should I lose that connection radio and TV has given me?”
Otunba Dayo Adeneye (D-One) to asabeafrika….’I am not a candidate without a track record’

And
why APC and not PDP or SDP? “It is the party I have always been associated
with” he responded and continued with this blog “Their ideology and their manifestoes
go with me. That is what I am all about; APC is about change, progressive
change. I mean we know what is happening to this country right now, we are
tired of talking about it. APC is about CHANGE, go to all the states APC
controls, we know what Fashola is
doing in Lagos. He continued from where Tinubu
stopped. Is that the same Lagos of 15 years ago?  Come to Ogun state here and see the development
and feel the change. Go to Ijebu-Ode,
go to Shagamu, go to Abeokuta and you will be marveled. I travelled
to Benin (Edo State) two years ago;
I was lost because the road network has changed.
Otunba Dayo Adeneye (D-One) to asabeafrika….’I have stopped complaining and will only act politically
Otunba Dayo Adeneye (D-One)….’I love to do immediate things, i love to change people at close range that is why i am going to the assembly and not the senate or rep for now’
So, if those people can be put
in a federal position you will be surprised the kind of thing they will do,
imagine a Fashola as the Vice
President or President of Nigeria, imagine the kind of impact he will make?  So, that is why I choose the APC party that is
where my ideology lies, there is where all my friends are so it is easier for
me to tilt to the party. Of course if I was money hungry, I have business contacts,
I have business associates in PDP,  I
could have easily gone for it and I will get federal appointment but that is
not what I am about. I have made money, I have been blessed. Is it cars that I
want at my age? Or is it houses that I still want? No, I want to leave a legacy
behind. The reasons we remember the Awolowos
of yesterday, we still remember the Tafawa
Balewas
and Nnamdi Azikwes of
yesterday was because they gave selfless service. They dedicated themselves; it
wasn’t about money for them. Sure, the money will come. When you serve people,
the money will come. Richard Brandson
said the more people you serve the richer you become and that is what I believe
in. Ask Mike Adenuga, ask Richard Brandson, ask Aliko Dangote, serve, when you serve
people, the money will come.”
Otunba Dayo Adeneye (D-One) to asabeafrika…..’APC as a party aligns with my personality as a progessive thinker’
On
how D-One felt with the kind of crowd that stormed his declaration on Tuesday,
the United Nation Ambassador for Peace answered “As a matter of fact, there is
no crowd here; I have to beg a lot of my friends not to come because I didn’t
want them to overwhelm this town. I am very happy, I mean go to the face book,
go to the internet, go to twitter and see the words of encouragement. The words
of encouragement have been tremendous and they have made me feel that I made
the right decision. Look, we need to start making changes we can not all take a
back seat and be lamenting. We have to be possibilitarians. We have to make a
difference; I am tired of sitting on the fence and complaining. I left America
to come back here (Nigeria) to contribute and you can see that I have
contributed. At least, if the history of entertainment will be written in
Nigeria they will dedicate a paragraph or two to Kenny Ogungbe and D-One
and I want to do that in governance. So, that when the history of Nigeria is
written they will dedicate a page or a chapter and say ‘Oh, D-One when he was
in Ogun state, when he was in this local government; one, two, three, four,
five is what he did”.
 So, will D-One
still be on radio and TV presenting when he becomes a member of the states
house of assembly come 2015? With a smile the broadcaster turned politician answered
“My brother, this is just another chapter in the book of my life. I still
teach, I go round to schools even though I am in entertainment I still go round
to mentor people. I am a journalist, I have a master’s degree in radio and
television; it is my first constituency.
Otunba Dayo Adeneye (D-One) …..’I love my people in Odogbolu’
Otunba Dayo Adeneye (D-One)…..’I have made a success in private business and i still have the manual to be replicated in public service’
That is the platform on which I am
going to reach out to people why should I abandon it? It is something I love,
it is something I am passionate about and come to think of it why should I lose
that connection radio and TV has given me? For instance now, 9ice supposed to come down here
(Odogbolu) and perform. If I can bring Tuface here to perform, if I can
bring P-Square to perform in Odogbolu,
why would I abandon entertainment? My impact might not be as much, my presence
(on Radio and TV) might diminish a bit because I will be here in Ogun state
working but I am not abandoning entertainment, I am not leaving entertainment
because everything we are doing is about entertainment, look at it, we are
singing, we are rejoicing, we are dancing because it is a joyful day. It is a
happy day; so, entertainment is all around us. Otunba Dayo Adeneye is not abandoning entertainment. I am just
moving to the next level. I am taking the next step, bringing what is different
to Nigeria instead of just being the part of a crowd that complains, let us go
and make a change and I am saying when I become the member of the state house
of assembly come 2015, I will make a change in the lives of my people a top
priority”.
