A 3-day retreat recently organized for wives of Local
Government (LGA) administrators and other women leaders in Kogi State (North Central Nigeria), at Reverton Hotel Lokoja, by Kogi
Women and Youth Advancement Foundation (KOWYAF), an initiative of the first
lady of Kogi State, Her Excellency, Mrs. Rasheeda Bello is aimed at defining the
role of women in driving the New Direction
and Agenda of the Executive Governor of Kogi
State, His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya
Bello and enable women to take up their roles and responsibilities at
the grassroots.

The primary purpose of the event is to create an atmosphere that will ensure the integration,
cooperation and relationship between the offices of the 1st Lady of the State
and Wives of Local Government Administrators in Kogi State.

Administrators’ wives and women leaders are not
only expected to replicate KOWYAF’s activities
at the local government level, but to develop projects amongst themselves,
especially with reference to the peculiarities of their areas, and implement
them to impact positively on the generality of the people.

The retreat drew representatives from the
different levels of government who spoke on the need for women to be educated
and play their needful roles in the society.

Nigeria, Her Excellency, Hajiya Aisha Buhari, represented by Dr.
Pauline Tallen also spoke extensively on the role that women should
play in enhancing a synergy between the offices of the Wives of the President,
State Governors and Local Government Council Chairmen in Nigeria. This is equally done in line with the implementation of
the Future
Assured Program (FAP) of Her Excellency, Mrs. Aisha Buhari.

participants’ knowledge at creating effective visible and positive change in
the standard of living of women and also address inequality, vulnerability, unemployment
and poverty among women, thereby contributing to the socio-economic and
political growth of Kogi State.
