Nkire acknowledged the vast experience of the former governor in
sports administration.
The seasoned politician made the remarks during a press interview
with some sports journalists in Abuja on Wednesday.

According to him, Kalu is a household name not only in business
and public administration but also sports management.

He said” this is the right time for Nigeria to present a
formidable candidate with the capacity in terms of financial resources and
network of contacts to vie for FIFA presidency. Supporting Kalu will not be out
of place as he has not only the reach but also the managerial acumen to run the
affairs of the world football body”.
“During his tenure as governor of Abia State, he personally
took charge in the running of Enyimba football club, earning the team victories
in matches and tournaments in Africa. Kalu is also serving in different
positions and capacities in many football clubs beyond the shores of Nigeria.
With his antecedents in sports development globally and coupled with his
passion for football, I strongly believe Kalu will do Nigeria proud if eventually
he wins the race”.
The APC chieftain while calling the political class and soccer
lovers to rally support for Kalu’s candidature, urged the federal government to
set up a local committee to work closely with potential candidates from Nigeria
in order to have an integrated campaign approach, adding that sports can be
used to redeem the image of Nigeria in the international community.
In another development, Chief Sam Nkire has called for the
scraping of the concept of security votes at both state and federal levels.
Nkire who spoke said any public fund which could not be accounted
for by office holders was bound to be misused and therefore will encourage
corruption.
The APC Board of Trustees member further condemned the situation
in which some state governors especially, allotted themselves about a quarter
of the state’s income in the name of security vote.
He noted that the fight against corruption would suffer a setback
if nothing is done to stop state assemblies from giving state governors money
that cannot be accounted for.
Nkire therefore called on all APC governors to take the lead by
rejecting the idea of spending government money without accounting for it.
He advised all public office holders to support President
Muhammadu Buhari in the fight against corruption, adding that the fight would
require collective
 effort to
succeed.
The APC chieftain condemned political office holders, across the
political parties, who divert security votes to personal use.
