Lagos big
girl Princess
Folashade Olabanji Aishat Oba does not come easy these days as her pet
project Ikorodu-for-Governor 2015 is
taking a better part of her schedule. Blessed with brain and brawn, the
Princess who is equally a woman and
youth leader in her Ikorodu constituency of Lagos state is one of the APC leaders who raised the hands of gubernatorial
hopeful, Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon (GOS) in recent newspaper
pictorials.

For this
beautiful and energetic Princess who is also aspiring for a seat to represent
her people at the Lagos state house of assembly come 2015, going into politics
is basically to gather more influence that will enable her harness decisions
that will alleviate the problems of her people.
Princess Folashade-Oba who is the founder of Shelter
of Grace Foundation (SGF) an NGO that enabled her to transform lives
among her people in Ikorodu has used her wealth and riches to train people in
all kinds of vocations until she was able to raise over five thousand
entrepreneurs through the NGO and that became her passport to partisan politics
as her people continued to ask for her hands and legs in politics which she
humbly yielded to after so much pressure. But right now, Princess who is said
to have gotten her political tutelage under the leadership of the national
leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on her
return to Nigeria in 2006 after a twenty years stint abroad has joined the
league of those asking ‘the big question’ “When will an Ikorodu born Lagosian
run affairs as Governor in Alausa?”.

The reason
for Princess’s proposal is traced to the history of the creation of Lagos state
about 47 years ago and the riddle of her Ikorodu people not ever having a son
of the soil rule as Governor despite the geographical importance of Ikorodu.
Hear their appeal in recent letter sent to across to leaders of the party in
Lagos and at the national level “When Lagos was created in 1967, it was divided
into 5 divisions under the acronym IBILE
which is Ikeja, Badagry, Ikorodu, Lagos Island and Epe. A quick look at the
political sharing formula clearly shows that four out of the five original
divisions have produced democratically elected governors for the state at
different times in the 47 years history of Lagos. Between 1979 and 1983 Alhaji (Dr.) Lateef
Kayode Jakande from the Lagos Island Division which is under Lagos
central ruled as Governor. After a long hiatus by Military interruption, Sir
Michael Agbolade Otedola from Epe Division in Lagos East ruled between
1991 and 1993. At the return of full democracy in 1999, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu
from Ikeja division under Lagos west ruled from 1999 to 2007. The incumbent
Governor, Barrister Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN) who took over from 2007
till date is equally from the Lagos Island Division under Lagos central.

Now, the
genuine question agitating the collective mind of the people of Ikorodu
Division is clear and simple; if the four other divisions have produced
Governors at different times in the last 36 years why not Ikorodu? And for the
Ikorodu born Princess Folashade Oba and her leaders of thought, this is the
right time to ask for it. The Ikorodu people are also seen as the biggest vote
donors to APC in all the four major elections that has taken place in the last
fifteen years of uninterrupted democracy in Lagos.

Her decision
to share her wealth with the ordinary people led her into politics as she
