General David Medayese Jemibewon and wife, Chief (Mrs.) Dupe Jemibewon |
Thursday
July 21st, 2016 was a day of mixed emotions for the first military
administrator of the old western region General David Medayese Jemibewon as
his mother, Mama Emife Jemibewon passed away in her sleep in the early
hours of the day. The veteran community leader and member of the good women
movement of the Apostolic Church of Nigeria passed away peacefully in her sleep
inside her Iyahgbede home in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State,
North Central Nigeria. She was aged 105.

It will be
recalled that it was around this time last year when the former minister of
Police affairs lost his father-in-law, Chief John Bosede Ajayi an
educationist, author and business man. Chief JB Ajayi passed away in his
sleep on Monday June 22, 2015. His
funeral between the cities of Ibadan where he lived and worked as
the Principal of the prestigious St. Patrick Grammar School and his
place of birth, Orin Ekiti drew the
attention of the who-is-who in Nigeria socio-economic sector to Oyo
and Ekiti
States respectively.

The General
equally lost his first wife, Madam Comfort Adunni Jemibewon (Nee
Oni) on July 22nd of same year (Exactly a month after his father
in-law passed away). He had to engage himself in a heavy funeral spree for both
his first wife and the father of his second wife, Chief (Mrs.) Dupe Jemibewon

It is a real
coincidence that General Jemibewon lost his mother some twenty four hours to the
first year anniversary of his first wife, Lady Comfort Jemibewon (Nee Oni).

The General & the GDA last year at Orin Ekiti |
For this
reason, close family sources who spoke to Asabeafrika said the General is
having a mixed emotion. Although highly philosophical and coupled with his
training as a military man, the Iyahgbede born General David Jemibewon
is said to have taken all in his stride preferring to give his darling mother a
befitting funeral for her commitment to his life which saw him rise very early
in life.

A family
source who confirmed the demise of Mama
to this blog said the General received the news of Mama’s death with great pain
but unlimited gratitude to God for a life well spent “The role of a mother will always be special in the heart of her son.
This is why the General is showing his human emotions for the sudden ascension
of Mama to join saints triumphant. Since Thursday when we lost her, the General
has continued to receive condolence calls from highly placed and ordinary
Nigerians who hold him in very high esteem. He is already on his way to Iyahgbede to put plans in place for the
funeral which will take place very soon”.

On which
date will the funeral be? The sources who is very close to the General’s Abuja
home simply said “We are looking at the
first week in August God willing”.
