Chief Abiola Ogundokun to Asabeafrika….’Abacha was a good man being misunderstood by many’ |
For several years, it was rumored
that Chief Abiola Ogundokun, the
media baron who laundered late Nigeria’s maximum ruler General Sani Abacha’s image in the international community more
than anyone else, during his 5 year reign as Commander-in-chief of the
Nigeria’s armed forces has fell out with his wife and former first lady, Hajiya (Dr.) Mrs. Maryam Abacha. The story was that the Iwo, Osun state-South
West Nigeria born politician and former secretary of the defunct NPN party
under President Shehu Shagari had a
shouting match with the former first lady inside her Gidado Road, Kano—North
Western Nigeria mansion couple of years ago and walked out on the former first
lady after thoroughly lashing out at her in the presence of her elderly kids.

However, during an exclusive 80th
birthday interview inside his Lagos
mansion in the heart of Festac on
July 7th 2016, Chief Ogundokun
who publishes Conscience International Magazine broke his
silence on the rumored fight between himself and Mrs. Maryam Abacha. Speaking exclusively frankly to your Africa’s
number 1 Celebrity encounter blog, Asabeafrika
few hours after his 80th birthday prayers, Ogundokun a PDP stalwart who just resigned from politics said it is
true he was out of tune with the former first lady. It will be recalled that it
was Chief Abiola Ogundokun who led Ovation International Magazine Publisher, Basorun Dele Momodu into
the Kano home of the Abachas couple of years back to conduct
the now famous ‘Abacha’s house of gold exclusive’ which gave the magazine her
first totally sold out copies status.

Speaking with Asabeafrika on the issue for the first time, Chief Ogundokun confirmed the story that indeed, it is true that he
is at war with Mrs. Abacha. He gave this blog the graphic details of what
led to the war and why has not visited Mrs.
Abacha since then? Enjoy the excerpts.

Chief Abiola Ogundokun to Asabeafrika….’I will insult anybody that insults my race’ |
Why I fell out with Maryam Abacha
Asabeafrika had asked the highly respected Iwo
born politician cum media baron why he has not visited the wife of his former
boss in a very long while and he responded swiftly “No, I cannot visit her because she is tribalistic”. Ogundokun explained further what he
meant by ‘tribalistic’ to Asabeafrika “The son Mohammed was
marrying the daughter of a Yoruba woman and she (Maryam) was totally opposed to
it. She wants her son to marry a northerner. Because of this issue, she
insulted (late) Wada Nas and every
one of us that we have forced her son to marry the wife, which is not true. And
she was rude. We were very close; it
could be just me and her in her private sitting room. And that day, she called
and I was insulted. One language I heard from her after talking rubbish about
the marriage, that I forced her son to marry the daughter of a Yoruba woman,
she said ‘Yoruba Bura o ba nka’. I
understand ‘Bura o ba nka’ if I
don’t speak Hausa. And I came on her seriously that ‘Bura o ban ka e’ and luckily Mohammed
(Abacha) was around. I shouted and wanted to really deal with her. Mohammed begged me, people had to beg
me and then I walked out on her. From that day till today I won’t talk to her. Mohammed and I talk but I have lost
contact with them”.

Me & Abacha’s Wealth
On how he
felt after reading stories about the great wealth of his late Principal’s
family, the Balogun Musulumi of Iwo land retorted “That money is too much. I thank God they
said they have been returning it back to the coffers because they also denied
the money to me”

Ogundokun, probably trying to act the role of
a surrogate father cleared the image of the two eldest sons of his late
Principal, Abacha “But Mohammed and Abba are very friendly; they take me as their father. You know the
day Mohammed was going to get
married; I acted as the father of Mohammed
while (General) Babangida was the
father of the wife. Because the biological father of the girl died in an air
crash during President Shehu Shagari’s era. He died on his way to Sao Tome and Principe. I was Mohamed’s
father that day and all of us were there. I did it for Abacha because I am their father’s friend. But now, we don’t see”

Abacha, a good man
Asabeafrika asked Chief Ogundokun to
describe General Sani Abacha in the final analysis and this is what he
said “He was a good man o, he was a good
man, they wanted to kill him and we refuse him dying” on what he taught
about the sudden and mysterious death of
his former principal on June 8, 1998 and later that of late Basorun
MKO Abiola on July 7 of same year (Same July 7 is Chief Ogundokun’s
birthday) the Chief frowned his face and replied thus “I know
they poisoned both of them. And I can tell you the truth will be out soon”.

MKO’s 18th death

anniversary and my birthday
Asabeafrika asked the Iwo born media baron and
politician how he felt that late Chief MKO Abiola the winner of the June 12, 2993 election who was locked up in a dungeon by his
late Principal, Abacha died on his birthday, he reacted like this “You know MKO happens to be my very good
friend. He is a very nice man. I am one of the trusted friends of Abiola. Abiola happens to be one of my highly trusted friends, very good
friend and when I was opening my housing estate in 1977 at Iwo, all of them were there, Abiola,
Shagari—that was my first housing
estate in life. It was Admiral Dele Abiodun (Adawa Super) who performed that day. Ha, Abiola is a big loss. The greatest
loss; Nigeria could have been better if that man was allowed to be president but
it is the same Yoruba people that lured Abacha,
the same Yorubas” Ogundokun
regretted.

How Al-Mustapha’s mistake contributed
to MKO Abiola’s death
to MKO Abiola’s death
On why Chief
Ogundokun failed to intervene on Abiola’s case since
Abacha was his friend, Ogundokun took a deep breath before
responding “Well, it was ambition. When
they lured him (Abacha) and the greatest mistake that happened again after his
death was the fact that Al-Mustapha
trusted Abdulsalami and brought him
in when actually, Mustapha was asked
to take over”.

Speaking further, Ogundokun tactically
agreed that a large arm of the military establishment wanted Major
Al-Mustapha to take over the reign of government “Apparently they wanted him but the struggle between him and Jeremiah Oseni caused a big trouble. Jeremiah was to take it but they didn’t
like themselves. They didn’t like each other. So, he gave it to Abdulsalami and the rest is history”.
