Why Rivers Deputy Gov, Ipalibo Harry-Banigo is powerful

Wike and Mrs. Ipalibo Banigo
To
the surprise of his critics the Rivers
State executive Governor Ezebunwo Nyemsom Wike
who is presently battling a
tribunal judgment of ‘exit from the position of governor’ is
alleged in some quarters as one of the Governors
who have set up a perfect working relationship with his deputy. And this
must have come on the note that the immediate past Deputy Governor Engr. Tele Ikuru had made several
complaints about his dissatisfactory experience with his former boss in the
past political dispensation.

Today Dr.
Ipalibo Harry-Banigo
is a face many citizens of the Southern Nigeria oil
rich state can see physically  representing the Governor in many public
events. With this the women in Rivers state are said to be having a sense of
belonging that at least they have someone they can look up to when it comes to
women representation in politics. For example she was present at Saint Paul’ Anglican Church at Garrison Port Harcourt in a ceremony
commemorating the 55th
Independence Anniversary of Nigeria
held by Christian Association of Nigeria –CAN Rivers state chapter and she
made policy statements that rekindled hope about the payment of over N1.4B for Rivers state indigenes in
various overseas scholarship programmes.

Severally, she had held forum with
women groups in which she had urged them to belong to some cooperative
societies as this will guarantee effective participation and sharing of
government’s presence to such groups through viable project executions. Rivers State Deputy Governor is very
busy with inspection of projects alongside with Governor Wike and most often she does this alone with her entourage
Dr (Mrs.) Ipalibo Harry-Banigo has
been an experienced administrator as a former Secretary to Rivers state Government-SSG and former HEAD OF SERVICE in Rivers state. This
background many believe will empower her to withstand any political maneuvering
by any of her political superior. As the executive Cabinet is yet to be fully
composed by Governor Wike there is a
Woman Commissioner for Agriculture out
of the existing four commissioners already appointed so far who happens to have
come from her native kalabari ethnic
group.
